Jism 2- Movie Review

Roochster

I think the movie should have been called Sunny’s 2. More on that. Read on.

So, umm, the story, right. Sunny Leone places Izna, a sexy porn star who fasaos this psycho assassin (Randeep Hooda) in her love, rather sex ka jaal for an Intelligence Officer (Arunoday Singh).

Looks like Pooja Bhatt wanted to take Jism one step ahead and so chose Sunny Leone, who is sexier, bustier and more famous as compared to Bipasha Basu who got extremely popular with her smooching scenes with boyfriend John Abraham back then. The look of the film is good, cinematography, locations, styling, acting, make up all good. The problem is the story, screenplay and lack of focus. The dialogues were cheesy and sleazy. Also, the music is very ok, not half as good as the music in Jism. It feels like the only reason for making this film was Sunny Leone. She’s probably in every scene, wearing push-up bras, low neck tops and short skirts to titillate every man sitting in the theatre. It was clearly expected which is why the theatre was almost full with 90% men and only 10% women that too for a 1:30pm show.

Sunny Leone looks sexy and we all know that, but the good part is that there was scope to see her acting also which was not bad at all. Even though her voice was dubbed, she acted really well and if I didn’t know she was a real life porn star, I would have just thought she’s another model. Her make up was superb! Randeep Hooda was very good as usual and has that intensity in his eyes which speak a thousand words. Arunoday Singh is a good actor but it seemed like he was struggling with his Hindi.

The music was ok. Unfortunately, even though it’s supposed to be an erotic thriller, it seemed more like a Sunny Leone commercial. It really should have been called Sunny’s 2, if you know what I mean! So yeah, avoid.

The Dirty Picture- Movie Review

Roochster

When I heard that ‘The Dirty Picture’ is based on Silk Smitha’s life, I quickly did a Google search and found out that she had done a small role in the movie ‘Sadma’ with Kamal Hasan and she looked extremely horny and weird. Why would anyone make a movie about Silk Smitha and why would Vidya Balan put on so much weight for a movie?! Read on.

The Dirty Picture is about Silk Smitha’s life. Reshma (Vidya Balan) runs away from home searching for work that will make her rich and famous. As luck would have it, even with her simple looks, she manages to get a song in a movie. People don’t like the movie, but when they see her sensuous moves and kaatil adaayein, she becomes the most wanted girl and everyone wants to sign her in their films. From Reshma, she becomes Silk and men love her, want her and can’t get enough of her. But is there anything besides money and fame in her life?

Ekta Kapoor knows what works and what doesn’t. She’s made a smart move and created a film that will be remembered not only for Vidya Balan’s acting and passion to be the character she plays, but everything about the movie replicates a person’s life we knew nothing about. To me that is a big deal. The story is very well played out and each character is well defined. The dialogues are superb and I love the way everything from the 80s ka setting to the costumes to the songs look so real and suit the time she lived in. The whole crew and especially the director Milan Luthria have done a damn good job!

Vidya Balan is the star of the show, undoubtedly! I can’t imagine any actress who’d put on 12 kgs for a movie, jeopardizing her film career. She deserves a standing ovation and hats off to her for pulling it off so beautifully! She looks fantastic even though she has an ugly paunch in the movie and acts effortlessly! RESPECT! She can probably be called the female Aamir Khan in Bollywood who does films because they mean something and not just to make money or whatever other reasons other actors have. She definitely deserves all the awards this year! Naseeruddin Shah might be old but does such a good job that you’d feel no one else would match up to him for the part of Surya. Tusshar Kapoor plays a lallu in the movie and luckily didn’t have a big role so he was quite ok. Emraan Hashmi has acted decently but his voice is quite irritating and monotonous!

The movie has only 3 songs out of which Ooh Lala is just too good and I can’t stop dancing everytime I listen to it thanks to Bappi Lahiri. Even Ishq Sufiyana is lovely.

The Dirty Picture is one of the best movies of 2011 and I totally recommend it! Go watch it in a single screen theatre to really enjoy it! Superb hai boss!
