1 Tablespoon Pizza Kitchen, Matunga (E)- Review

Roochster

1-tablespoon-1 I’d been craving pizza for some time and wished to go have some over the weekend; when I got a mail to try 1 Tablespoon, a pizza place. Ha! My prayers were answered! So, Karan and I decided to go to their Matunga outlet and treat ourselves to some really good pizza! Now when I say good, I mean good alright! Read on.

Food– One Tablespoon serves Italian food, mainly pizza and pasta. They also have paninis and some side dishes such as Garlic rolls, Hummus and Pita and coolers. Being a vegetarian only place, this might be a bit disheartening for the non-vegetarians, but I promise you even the Veg pizzas are brilliant! Here’s all the stuff we had:

Spaghetti Aglio Olio– Slightly dry and spicey, but tastewise it was perfect! We thought we’d just try it but wiped it clean because of how yummy it was.

1-tablespoon-pastaCiao Chili (Tomato sauce, cheese, Ricotta, Red Chilli) – My favourite from all the pizzas we tried. This was the first pizza we tried and everything from the bread to the sauce to the toppings was perfect. Karan preferred the Rosa Mexicana pizza though.

Rosa Mexicana (Mexican sauce, cheese, tomatoes, sweet corn, jalapenos, onions) – This was a fully loaded pizza with a Mexican twist. If you like your pizza loaded with toppings, you must have this one.

Mushroom Lovers (Tomato sauce, cheese, mushrooms, minced garlic) – I’m not a mushroom lover but Karan said it was pretty nice.

Quattro Formaggi (Tomato sauce, Mozzarella, Cheddar, Parmesan, Scamorza, Green onions, garlic) – The onions and garlic made a big difference to the regular super cheesy pizza. Try it!

Raspberry Iced Tea, Lemon Iced Tea, Orange Cooler (Tang)-All were too sweet and we had to ask them to add water and ice.

1-tablespoon-pizzasAmbience & Service – Located in Matunga East under a residential building, One Tablespoon is a small place with 3 to 4 tables to sit. A brick wall with a little window stands opposite the tables, adding a nice rustic feel to the restaurant. They deliver to nearby places and also have another outlet at Lower Parel, where they serve pizza by the slice and non veg food.  We were served well and so glad to have ordered all the right stuff.

Prices– As we were invited, our dinner was completely complimentary however, if you plan to go on your own too, everything you eat there is worth every penny. The pizzas range from Rs. 285-405 for a 11” pizza good for one person, the Aglio Olio pasta is for Rs. 275, Paninis are for Rs.195- 225. The coolers are for Rs. 75 each.

1-tablespoon-2Verdict– We’re definitely going to One Tablespoon again, next time to Lower Parel so Karan can try the non-vegetarian pizzas too. Love! Love! Love! Go try! NOW!

Mohenjo Daro- Movie Review

Roochster

Mohenjo-Daro-posterHrithik Roshan’s personal life has pretty much taken over his acting career. Whether it’s his divorce with Susan or his affair with Kangana that caused it, he’s been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Whatever said and done, it’s good to see Hrithik back on screen.

Plot in short– Sarman (Hrithik Roshan) an Indigo farmer from a small village called Aamri in the Indus Valley falls in love with Chaani (Pooja Hegde) a priest’s daughter from Mohenjo Daro, a township built for traders and businessmen. As the truth of their past unfolds, things get pretty messed up. Will their love survive through it all? Oh wait, will Mohenjo Daro survive?

The Good– Hrithik Roshan, Kabir Bedi and Arunoday Singh’s performances are definitely the better things in the film. The grandeur of the sets, costumes and overall look of the film is brilliant. Some of the locations are gorgeous, especially that of the opening sequence. I didn’t really like any songs except for ‘Tu hai’ which is a typical ‘Rahman’ song and has a great melody.

The Not-so-good– There are so many things that don’t work for the film-The length of the film, the visual effects, screenplay, music and the fact that it just can’t connect with the audience of today. Actress Pooja Hegde looks pretty with her huge head gear but has quite a lame role to really be noticed as for her acting. Ashutosh Gowariker as a director wants to say so much but unfortunately the content is not strong enough to make it work like he’d have wanted it to. There are so many moments where you would laugh at the sheer stupidity of the scene. I feel bad because Ashutosh Gowariker is such a good, serious director who visualizes big. There’s so much history related to Mohenjo Daro & Harappa which could have been given more importance rather than highlighting the love story so much.

Verdict– As a film, Mohenjo Daro is long, predictable and a bit over the top but visually stunning.

Vedge, Andheri (W)- Review

Roochster

Vedge 6My recent visits to new restaurants proves one thing- all of them are trying to be ‘different’ and give customers something ‘new’ by experimenting with your basic dishes. With their new menu, Vedge too has gotten into that experimental space. I was invited along with some other bloggers from the Food Bloggers Association of India (FBAI) to try new items from their menu. Here’s what I thought of all that I tried.

Vedge 1Food– We had a set menu and could choose what we wanted from it. Let me tell you that it was a LOT of food as we ended up trying most of the dishes from the menu. I’m going to describe what I thought of all the stuff I tried in one- two lines each. All these dishes were well presented and looked delicious.

Vedge 2Pan Supari Martini (Masala, Betal leaf, apple juice)- A brilliant start to my evening, this drink is an absolute must have if you like paan!

Vedge 8Creamy Tomato, Basil & Parmesan soup- I am not a soup fan but this was a delicious soup! Thick, creamy and yum!

Wok Tossed potato, honey chilli sauce- This was the best starter we had! A winner for sure.

Sweet  corn & cheese ball bites with Fresh Herbed mayo- Unfortunately there was a small strand of hair as I cut through one of the crispy looking balls. A big turn off! However, I ignored that and tried another piece. Not bad at all!

Vedge Fully loaded Nachos- These were crispy, loaded with capsicum, cheese, sour cream, olives and tomato salsa. I wish the nacho chips were smaller though.

Chilli Bean Tacos- The filling was adequate but the taste was just ok.

Thai Corn fritters with sweet chilli sauce-This was my least favourite dish. There was too much corn and it was super spicey.

Vedge 4Jalapeno popper & Cream cheese pizza- This was probably the most pointless, bland pizza I’ve ever had! There was no sauce and it felt like I was eating bread and cheese.

Sabzi Galouti Kebab with Coriander & Mint chutney- This was better than I had expected. The kebabs were nice and soft and went well with the accompanying chutney.

Tandoori paneer tikka slider with cheddar cheese and Achari Mayo- The Achari mayo was the USP of this burger. A very interesting mix indeed! Try it.

Desi cheese korma with layered flaky Malabari paratha- Great texture of the paratha but it was so sweet! Since the Korma was also sweet, the combination just didn’t make sense. A spicy sabzi would probably taste better with it.

Vedge 3Thai Massaman curry, brown flavoured rice- The rice was great but the curry was too sweet for our liking.

Stir fry vegetables in hot chilli & basil sauce with Burnt garlic fried rice- I loved the fried rice even on its own! The stir fry veggies  gravy was nice and spicy and went very well with the rice.

Beet & Cheddar Risotto, Lemon, corn & Paprika Risotto- Both lacked the flavour, cheese and thick and sticky consistency one would expect to find in a Risotto.

Spicy Vanilla Chai shake- The combination is just bad! I had one sip and that was it.

Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting- I loved the outer layer but the inside was super sweet and just not that nice.

Vedge 5Magic Chocolate pot- Apart from the melting gimmick, the dessert has nothing to rave about. It only oozes sweetness, eventually overpowering the real taste of the ‘Magic pot’.

Chocolate Mud Pile- I liked that the cake, ice cream, chocolate sauce, powdered sugar, chocolate soil and drinking chocolate were arranged separately and the chef came and mixed it all up for us. I could do without the extra sugar and chocolate soil though.

Ambience– The restaurant has a contemporary + rustic vibe to it. A little bit of this and that. I loved the Moroccan tiles and the hanging filament lamps.

Vedge 7Service & Prices– I wouldn’t be able to comment on the service and prices as we were invited as a blogger and the meal was complimentary.  However, I would like to say that our server Rajesh was very polite and served us well and tolerated all our nakhras while we clicked photos and discussed how the dishes were. From what I gather after reading the menu, I can say that one would end up spending roughly about 750 per head.

Verdict– It was an average experience where food is concerned. I would recommend the chinese food and the Pan Supari martini.

Shen Reflexology, Khar (w)- Review

Roochster

Shen ReflexologyEveryone deserves some pampering, especially when it relaxes not just your body, but also your mind and soul. I am grateful to Shweta, the owner of Shen Reflexology, Khar for having Karan and me over to try two of their therapies. Here’s how it went.

So I had been to Shen on a friend’s (Aditya Kripalani) recommendation more than 5 years ago, when the place had opened in a mall in Bandra. I don’t remember which therapy I had tried there but I remember it was a really good experience and the therapists were very good at their work. It was by chance that Shweta came across my blog and contacted me to come try it just a couple of days ago and with a smile on my face I wrote back saying I’d be very happy to. And there we were… all set to relax and get pampered at Shen.

The massage rooms are dimly lit with soothing music to set the mood and make you feel completely relaxed.

Hand & Foot Reflexology Combo (30 mins Hand and 30 mins Foot- Rs. 950)– I’d been wanting to try the Hot Stone therapy as that’s something I haven’t tried yet but Shweta didn’t recommend it considering the heat and humidity we have in Mumbai currently, breaking between Summer and Monsoon. After looking at the service list, I opted for the Hand & Foot Reflexology Combo while Karan went for the Shiatsu (Japanese style full body reflexology). Both these therapies go on for one hour and 15-20 mins. The room I was led to was specifically for hand, foot, back, head and other dry therapies. As I rested on my recliner chair, the skilled fingers of my therapist worked their magic on my feet, legs, hands and arms. I was totally relaxed and could feel he stiffness in my body reduce drastically with the perfect pressure. A surprise fifteen minutes of head, back, shoulders and knees massage was like icing on the cake. But there was more. A cup of herbal tea was the finishing touch.

Shaitsu Body Massage (90 mins- Rs. 1800)– This is a Japanese healing method to strengthen the body and keep the body’s energy flowing. I was super jealous that Karan was going for this massage because I wanted to go for that too. The masseur used his fingers, elbows, palms, knuckles, knees and feet to work on the body’s acupuncture points and I could just see how relaxed Karan looked when he came out. He said it was painful when the pressure was applied and in a second the body was more at ease and it felt like heaven. Ugghhh so jealous!

All the therapies are more affordable than most of the other spas everywhere. The best thing is that they have packages which offer complimentary sessions which means that you eventually spend atleast 30-40% lesser.

Go try! – You can call them on 022 26055578 or 9930717676 and book your appointment after carefully selecting your therapy on their website- www.shenreflexology.com

Their address- G3, Heera House, Junction of 1st and 12th road, between Citibank and MadhuPark, Khar west, Mumbai 52.

Verdict– Professional, efficient and totally worth your money, Shen Reflexology is a must try! I recommend!

The Serial Griller, Andheri (W)- Review

Roochster

The Serial GrillerThe Serial Griller is such a cool name for a burger joint, no? Well, I have to say that the burgers are just as cool.

Let me give you a short background of the owner- cum- Burger chef Annant Chowdhary, who, by the way is a marketing professional when he’s not cooking up delicious burgers on the weekends and post work hours on weekdays. He said he’s always wanted to start his own restaurant and had to give it a shot to really make it happen. And that’s when ‘The Serial Burger’ happened. For now he’s operating from his home in Andheri and delivers to people living in and around Andheri.

What we had– The menu has about six burgers to choose from, out of which two are vegetarian. You also have an option to DIY (Do it yourself) by choosing the ingredients and sauces. Pretty neat! The burger I had is called the Jungle Bandit (Rs. 219) which is basically a huge slab of cottage cheese cooked well and placed between carrots, onions, capsicum, lettuce, tomatoes and a nice smearing of roast garlic and Garden mayo. You know, being a vegetarian, there aren’t any burgers that I really love apart from the AlooTikki burger from Mac Donald’s. The Jungle Bandit kind of changes that for me. I thought the burger was saucy & moist and immensely satisfying. Karan had the ‘American Mafia’ burger (Rs. 219) which is a minced chicken patty on a bed of grilled carrots, onions, jalapenos and some mustard mayo. He loved the chicken patty and choice of sauce and veggies inside the burger but felt that burger bun could have been better. We had both these burgers with some fries and Coke. The fries were perfect!

How to order? As of now they’re taking orders post 8: 30pm on weekdays and from 12pm to 11pm on weekends. If you stay around Andheri, they can deliver. Contact: 82910 75654/655

Verdict- I highly recommend the burgers we tried and look forward to trying some more burgers very soon! Value for money!
