Ek Villain- Movie Review

Roochster

ek-villain-movie-posterFrom the looks of it, Ek Villain looked like a must watch film, especially because it seemed like a good ‘thriller’. How thrilling was it? You’re just about to find out.

Plot in short– Guru (Siddharth Malhotra), a gangster because of circumstances and Aisha (Shraddha Kapoor) fall in love and are married. The love story loses balance when a psychopath serial killer (Riteish Deshmukh) kills Aisha. When his lover becomes the latest victim of the serial killer, Guru blurs the line between good and evil in his pursuit of revenge.

The Good– Riteish Deshmukh takes the cake for performing like a star. He is very talented and should definitely be seen in more films. Siddharth Malhotra is a complete hotty and I have a huge crush on him. Haha! Besides the looks part, he’s acted well too. I like that he’s not too filmy or melodramatic. He’s got the potential to do some serious shit. Shraddha Kapoor has acted better than what she did in Aashiqui 2 so yeah that’s a good thing too. Aamna Shariff too played the wife effortlessly. Now, the story didn’t appeal to me much but if you watch the film you can get two different stories which would have worked better than this. I think if just Riteish’s story was taken along with Aamna Shariff and the various other characters, it would make for a better watch. The styling and make up is top notch. The cinematography is lovely in parts and average in some. The music is soothing to the ears. I like the song ‘Teri galliyan’ a lot.

The Not-so-Good– The screenplay and dialogues are a bit messed up. The direction contributes to it. Some scenes are super corny like the part when the nurse checks Riteish Deshmukh’s pulse, declares him dead and when an injection is stabbed into his heart, he wakes up with a jolt. Quite stupid eh? Yeah, many more such stupid scenes in the movie to laugh at. Kamaal R. Khan was very annoying as expected. I also felt that the editing could have been crisper.

Verdict– Corny and barely thrilling, Ek Villain works because of the performances, especially by Riteish Deshmukh.

Humshakals- Movie Review

Roochster

This is by far Sajid Khan’s worst film as a director because not just the screenplay but even the acting, dialogues, story and direction but on the whole the movie is nothing but a disaster so please avoid watching it!

Grand Masti- Movie Review

Roochster

Grand masti posterMasti was one of the first adult comedy films that the audience loved way back in 2004. I was really looking forward to watching Grand Masti just to see what new it had to offer when compared to the various other adult comedies that release every year. Here’s what I thought.

Three friends who are married, sex-starved and looking for some excitement in life, get invited to their college’s reunion. Once there, they meet three sexy women who seem like the perfect types to have a fling with and their wives wouldn’t even know. Things go awry when the boys realise that they are all related to a man who is the biggest nightmare they know. How long can the Grand Masti go on for?

With tons of clichés and adult humour, director Indra Kumar has made a sex comedy that is basically for the masses. Please go expecting nothing but slapstick humour that is not acceptable to all. To be honest, I had a great time. The comic timing of all the actors, the dialogues, the screenplay all go hand in hand. There isn’t anything great about the story. Even though it’s supposed to be a reunion, you wont find anything like a reunion happening throughout the movie except for maybe the end when everyone meets at the hall and dances together.

The art direction is superb! Lots of colours and props used to make the film as colourful as possible. Great cinematography by Rituraj Narain. The costumes of the women are a little too much but I guess they’ve supposed to be and that’s the point of a sex comedy- to titillate the audience, men and women. I like how the guys were styled though. Even though they’re nine years older, all three actors look young and fresh.

The background music makes the film more fun to watch but I wouldn’t say the same about the music of the film. Music directors Anand Raj Anand and Sanjeev Darshan have composed music that’s not worth listening to and could have been avoided.

Coming to the performances… Riteish Deshmukh as we all know is too good at comedy and his expressions are bang on. Vivek Oberoi too I have always liked as an actor and even with the over-the-top acting he’s a treat to watch. Aftab Shivdasani is great at comedy and should consider doing more comedy films like these. In a way, a lot has to do with the chemistry the three of them share. They’re fantastic together with comic timings that match very well. Suresh Menon is another one with great comic timing but his role does get a bit annoying. Manjari Phadnis and Karishma Tanna are the only actresses who can actually be considered actresses. The rest of them- Bruna Abdullah, Maryam Zakaria Kainaat Arora and Sonalee Kulkarni are only about the body and looks.

Overall, Grand Masti is fun, entertaining and extremely corny so watch it only if you’re not going to be over-critical and judge everything you see.

Kyaa SuperKool Hain Hum- Movie Review

Roochster

I was really looking forward to watching Kyaa SuperKool Hain Hum after watching all the trailers. I thought they were hilarious and totally crazy! Now, let’s get down to my review.

Coming to the story- What story? Haha what I mean is that there’s no story, just random scenes or jokes put together to create one sex comedy. It involves 2 guys with no ambition in life and aren’t particularly working, who have a double meaning for everything! They come across 2 beauties and chase them around and even land up in Goa with their pug ‘Sakru’ who is the doggy version of ‘Vicky Donor’. After that I don’t know what to say because there’s no story only just tons of pjs and double meaninged jokes.

So, as I said, there’s no story so let me not get into talking about that. Ekta Kapoor’s mantra is ‘Sex sells’ so she’s made sure there’s plenty of sexual innuendos and ‘non-veg’ jokes throughout that will make the college crowd go mad. And to be honest, people were laughing out loud, clapping and whistling throughout. Its clearly a movie for the masses. The styling is good, the hair artist has done a fab job, superb locations and colours! I also felt that Riteish Deshmukh hasn’t looked this good before. He’s worked on his body and he’s showing off his new tattoos on his arms and chest all through the movie. There’s a lot of adverts placed in the movie too- Lawman, Moods Condoms, Global Advertisers, Nimbuzz, Ipill to name a few.

Some of the dialogues are really bad; For example: Riteish Deshmukh at a pani puri stall says, :”Aane ragdo mane chaat’. Very old joke! Also , one of the pugs who Anupam Kher calls his mother is called ‘Rose Mary Maarlo’. Quite old and quite sad too! Many more of those in the movie. There are also some really funny jokes like when Riteish Deshmukh meets this gay guy at a bar and that guy says, “Haha you’re witty” to which Riteish says, “Haha you’re Churchgate”. Now that’s a joke only people in Mumbai will understand. That really cracked me up though!

Coming to the performances, I think Riteish Deshmukh is very good with his comic timing and has done a good job, Tusshar should stick to his ‘Golmaal’ role where he doesn’t need to do much, except for maybe the ‘Chingum’ scene where he acts like Ajay Devgan! Now that was hilarious! Sarah Jane Dias and Neha Sharma look hot and have done a decent job acting also.

Yeh picture itni ‘kool’ bhi nahin lekin phir bhi timepass hai. Dekhna hai toh dekho bhai!

Double Dhamaal- Movie Review

Roochster

I’ve seen Dhamaal and have laughed like crazy which is what drove me to watch Double Dhamaal. Was it as good as the first one? Aage padho!

So what’s the movie about? The four nuts Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh, Ashish Chowdhry and my favourite Javed Jaffrey  are struggling to make money for a living and they find Sanjay Dutt (their earlier tormentor) living the good life. The fun begins when they try to mess his life up and the tables turn on them.

To begin with, this movie is stupid, random and dumb in most parts so do not expect much when you go. Do not try to make sense of everything you see and trust me, you will find yourself laughing and having a good time. If you liked Ready, you definitely should like this. If not, then you’re a suck up who likes Ready only because Salman Khan is in it and that movie was very stupid and hardly funny!

Out here you’ve got actors who are great at comedy even though they’re not stars. Their comic timing is superb! Obviously now Mallika Sherawat and Kangana Ranaut (pigeon) are just there to show some cleavage; oh and let me add Ashish Chowdhry to that list too! 😉 There are some crazy-ass dialogues in the film that made me and my brother laugh like mad! For example, a man says “Gun de!” to which Javed Jaffrey replies saying “Tu ganda!” As I said, it’s not meant for people who don’t like or understand slapstick humour. The songs are random and come in from nowhere but the ‘Jalebi Bai’ song is something I can listen to some more and get used to even though it’s is something I can listen to some more and get used to even though it’s an absurd name for a song!

Double Dhamaal wasn’t as good as the first one but it wasn’t bad either. It’s one of those movies I can watch again if it comes on Tv. Go watch it and have a good laugh!

F.A.L.T.U. – Movie Review

Roochster

Chaar bajj gaye lekin party abhi baaki hai! was all that I had heard/seen of the movie. From the name only I thought it’d be a stupid faaltu movie! Now, how faaltu is the question. Read on!

A group of 4 friends are rejected by all the colleges as they they’re the ‘don’t-give-a-shit-about-studies type. When their parents grill them about getting into a good college so they can have a bright future, they create a fake college for a day to get out of the mess. What follows is a lot of crazy stuff which I will not enlighten you with here in my review.

So, if you’ve watched the Hollywood flick ‘Accepted’ you might just think this movie’s a waste of time. I was just hoping they’d be a little original! But if you’re in college and went to watch this with your friends, you’ll enjoy it. The movie has flop actor Jackie Bhagnani whose papa is the producer of the film. He’s actually quite a sweet boy but doesn’t know anything about acting! Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh, Darshan Jariwala and Boman Irani were great and the other actors don’t matter much.

Even though the song’s aren’t that great, except for one, Remo Desouza’s choreography is outstanding, especially the last dance sequence with all the neon lights n all. Superb! It’s supposed to be a comedy film but I didn’t really find any of their jokes that funny.

But all in all, it’s a light hearted film with a good message in the end for college kids. For everyone else, watch ‘Accepted’ instead. Lekin itna bhi faltu nahin hai.
