Cloud Atlas- Movie Review

Superb make up, styling, production design and characters but I felt like an idiot sitting for  2 hrs 40 mins in utmost confusion and thinking now there’ll be something breathtakingly shocking and only landed up disappointed because I already knew it was all ‘connected’ and hence the entire movie to me was pointless.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara- Movie Review

I had just seen the song Senorita and one dialogue where Hrithik Roshan is formally dressed and Abhay Deol says, “Arjun my buwoy, tum is the uniform mein the mantal lag rahe ho” That was what made me go and watch this movie. Was it any good? You’re just about to find out!

So, like The Hangover, 3 friends decide to go to Spain for 3 weeks to have their Bachelor’s trip before their friend Kabir (Abhay Deol) gets married to his girlfriend Natasha (Kalki Koechlin). Arjun (Hrithik Roshan) is a workaholic and Imran (Farhan Akhtar) works as a copywriter at an ad agency. They decide to do loads of adventurous things as a part of this trip and at the end of it realize ke ‘Zindagi na milegi dobara’ toh karo jo karna hai abhi.

Ok here’s the truth. ZNMD is quite like The Hangover 2- Bradley Cooper- Hrithik Roshan (Serious and sensible, they even look alike), Zach Galifianakis- Farhan Akhtar (entertainer) and Ed Helms- Abhay Deol (the one who is super loyal to his fiancée and yet faces trouble.)It will also remind you of Dil Chahta Hai; only that was more original and funny. In this some scenes were hilarious and at the same time, some were quite blah! You’d wish there’d be more adventure and excitement to really feel it’s a Bachelor’s trip.

ZNMD lacks the “naturalness” of the characters, especially Hrithik. I personally felt he’s too filmy to be in this kind of movie. You know what I mean? He looks great but is fit for love stories which need proper proper acting. This movie is the type that requires the actors to be at ease and let the dialogues flow and not look rehearsed. I loved Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar. For that matter, even Kalki Koechlin and Katrina Kaif were good and did their part very well.

I loved the cinematography though. Superb visuals, especially the song where they’re in the car travelling, it is so beautifully shot I can’t tell you! Luckily there weren’t too many songs in the movie.

So, I thought ZNMD was just okay.

Hall Pass- Movie Review

I wanted to watch this movie only because it seemed like one of those light Rom-Coms, even though I knew ‘The King’s Speech’ would be way better. Was it worth making the sacrifice? Read on and find out!

The movie’s basically about these 2 husbands who check out other women and get slapped. Hah just kidding! It’s about these 2 husbands who check out other women like any other man. Their wives know this and can’t help but get annoyed ‘cause they don’t get as much attention from them as they used to. So the husbands get a Hall Pass which allows them to do whatever they want for a whole week and that’s where the story picks up. The rest need not be told in my story summary.

So Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis (the husbands) are good actors but Wilson looked sort of stupid and awkward in this movie. I don’t know why but I felt that this kind of a movie so doesn’t suit him. Christina Applegate and Nicky Whelan looked super hot which sort of covered up whatever flaws there were in the scenes they were in.

Some scenes were quite funny but not so funny that I’d laugh out loud. Also, the film kind of felt long even though it was just two hours. They could have done so much with the whole concept and plot of Hall Pass.  So anyway, as a movie it was just ok. Not outstanding but not that bad either. Watch at home types. I definitely should have gone for ‘The King’s Speech’ instead.

Yeh Saali Zindagi- Movie Review

Ok sorry but this time I’m not writing my review of the film… I’m just gonna bitch my heart out!

Ek toh I went thinking it would be an interesting thriller with Chitrangda Singh, directed by Sudhir Mishra and that I’ll really like it, but what I saw was crap! In the first half of the first half itself I was bored and confused and clueless about what’s happening. There are 10000 different characters with 10000 different stories, all interconnected and leading to a stupid ending which is at the beginning of the movie. Haan so theek hai; there have been movies edited like that in the past and this was probably meant to be one of those but hello! This was really really ridiculous! I had to ask my friend ke kya ho raha hai bhai!

Haan so the story was anyway super confusing, upar se most dialogues had maa behen ki gaalis in them which all the boys in the theatre found very amusing and were laughing out loud like jackasses! Ok some dialogues were funny, no doubt, but even if they weren’t, and still had a gaali in them, there would be guys laughing like idiots. Hmmm…maybe laughing at abuses is a guy thing.

So anyway, besides that, Chitrangda Singh looked hot, Irrfan Khan acted well with his big eyes bulging out and the cute guy Arunoday Singh looked really cute lekin kya faayda?!

The music was bakwas, the cinematography was still decent but as a movie, to me, it was completely bakwas!

I will not rate it and I will not even write a summary of the story for you (cause I didn’t fully get it myself).

Bas ho gaya. 😛  Thank you.

Joey’s Pizza, Andheri West- Review

After going through a crazy day… starting with a stupid ‘Garage sale’, walking through Lokhandwala and eating at random places, we (Fash, Sneha and I) decided to do dinner at Joey’s Pizza (recommended by my friend Irfan) cause us going to Andheri to chill is quite rare (yeah, we’re townies!) so we made the most out of our one day visit.

Food– It’s a regular pizza place, mainly for home delivery but they also have seating arrangement in case you want to eat there. What makes it so special are the variety of toppings and the fact that if you’re a girl, a 7” pizza can fill you up unlike other pizza parlours! My friend and I shared a 12” pizza- Popeye Special which includes spinach, baby corn and paneer tikka. My non-vegetarian friend had a 10” half Joey’s Special (Chicken salami, Bbq chicken, Roast Chicken and onions) + half Popeye Special. She couldn’t finish it! So if you go through the menu, you’ll find a huge list of combination toppings for both Veg and Non veg so you wont be disappointed at all. Taste-wise also the pizzas are good…not as bland as Pizza Hut…In fact they remind me of Mama Mia where the pizzas are value for money with great toppings and pizzas that actually fill your stomach.

Ambience– It’s a sweet small place located at Andheri West, near Indian Oil Nagar with just about 4-5 tables for the ones who want to go there and eat but its mainly a home delivery place like most pizza parlours.

Service– The service is very good. They make sure you’re happy with your toppings and choice of pizza and even suggest what to have in case you’re confused. They got our pizzas on time so no complaints.

Prices– As I said earlier, this place is value for money. They give you pizzas that fill your stomach and you wont feel cheated as far as prices are concerned. The 12” Popeye special cost us 270. If you split that into two, its about 150 bucks per head (with tip) and you wont even need dessert! So totally worth it!

Verdict– Joey’s pizza is paisa vasool. The pizzas are good, but not as good as Pizzeria (‘cause that’s the best) but still very good and worth your money. Great toppings! They should open an outlet in town too!

We Are Family- Movie Review

And finally I watched the much awaited Step Mom copy, Karan Johar’s “We are family”! As much as I knew that this movie couldn’t even come close to Step Mom, I had to watch it for Kajol and obviously to see how filmi it would be!

Ok for those who haven’t even seen Step Mom; it’s about this mother of 3 who has split with her husband. Her husband finds himself a girlfriend who he’s completely in love with and gets her home to meet the kids and ex-wife. Turns out, the mother and kids don’t want to accept her. The ex-wife after a medical check-up realizes she has cervical cancer and will die soon so she decides to accept the new girl in her ex-husband’s life and learns that she’s not bad at all. The kids too start liking her and she becomes their step mom.

Phew! Ok now being a Karan Johar movie, you’d obviously predict the usual drama, oodles of emotions, songs, dance, rich sets and all that jazz. This movie has all of that! Acting- wise, Kajol was as brilliant as ever! She’s a natural actor and does her job flawlessly! Kareena Kapoor was lovely! Her character was a little too forgiving and nice but she did it very well! She looked gorgeous! Arjun Rampal was ok…I would’ve preferred someone who can match up to someone as powerful as Kajol… Arjun Rampal was just…dull!  I was wondering why Shahrukh Khan wasn’t in this film! The kids were cute, except for the teenager kid. The music is not something you’d listen to otherwise, but it fits in well with the movie.

I can’t say much about the story because it’s copied but to be honest, it’s not as good as the original movie! There were lots of moments in which tears were flowing down my cheeks and some happy moments too; but it lacked that “something” which could’ve made it a really good movie! Luckily it was just 2 hours and not longer! The ending was very stupid! It should’ve ended with Kajol’s death!

So anyway, I wont recommend this movie to those who prefer watching “smart movies” and don’t like Karan Johar movies (this one’s not directed by him, by the way)!  This movie is for emotional fools like me!
