Rockstar- Movie Review

Roochster

My expectations from Rockstar were pretty high, considering there’s Ranbir Kapoor as factor 1 and Imtiaz Ali as factor 2. So, this was bound to be a hit, right? Well, read further and find out!

Ranbir Kapoor has one dream- to be a rockstar. But when he becomes one, he realizes there’s a lot more than just the fame and money. There’s loneliness, pain and an emptiness inside which can only be filled by true love.

The story is as obvious as it gets and still it’s somehow not how it should be. Rockstar could have been a hard-hitting film with a super performer as the lead actor but the story focuses too much on the confusing love story between Ranbir and Nargis. I like the way it’s all been edited though and the locations are pretty awesome!

What I love about Ranbir Kapoor is that he gets into the skin of his character and does it really well. In the beginning, he plays Janardhan, a young aspiring singer trying his luck everywhere and doing everything he’s told. He’s innocently adorable. After the transformation, he becomes Jordan, a passionate lover who’s angry almost all the time and sometimes seems to have a mental problem. Nargis Fakhri is another Katrina Kaif. By this I mean that she looks very pretty but can’t act. I wish her well though.

The music by A.R. Rahman is just not how it used to be and for me that is a major let down, especially for a movie like Rockstar where music is of utmost importance. I like Katiyan Karoon and Tum Ho; Sadda Haq is amazing in the movie but I don’t think I’d really download or go buy the music of Rockstar because I wouldn’t see myself listening to the songs otherwise. I’d really expected a lot more from the man who’s made awesome music in the past.

So, Rockstar is really disappointing as a movie even though Ranbir Kapoor’s done full justice to his role.

Raavan- Movie Review

Roochster

Got home half drenched after watching Raavan…Ok no, it’s the mad rain! So now here’s what I thought of the movie.

Simple story, similar to the epic tale Ramayana, Raavan is sort of an adaptation based in today’s times in some village in India. According to me, Main Ratnam has done a fairly good job. The story could’ve been better but there are other things in the movie that are superb.

Abhishek Bachchan who plays Beera in the movie is abso-fu**in-lutely brilliant! I have never seen an actor put so much life in to a character. He’s got a slightly negative role in the movie and has done it so well; he deserves a Filmfare for it! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the other hand was very ok and really needs to work on her acting skills. As for Govinda, I think this was the first time I’ve seen him do a character role and he was pretty decent… He’s usually trying to act like a stud otherwise (which he clearly is NOT!)

The cinematography by Santosh Sivan is so good that you’d actually feel like visiting all the places the film has been shot at. Beautiful visuals! The music- songs and background score- bloody awesome!  I have no words to describe what a genius A.R Rahman is! I love the way Behene De is shot;  it’s made me love the song even more! I wish there was more of Ranjha Ranjha though!

But to be honest, this movie belongs to Abhishek Bachchan for his stellar performance. He, without a doubt really is one of the best actors we have in Bollywood!

I know a lot of reviews for this movie by other movie critics and people might be negative, but it’s really not that bad. The experience was great and I’m so glad I saw Raavan!  If you love movies, do watch this.
