Barfi!- Movie Review

Roochster

I was super eager to watch the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Barfi! because of how awesome it looked from all the promos. Here’s what I think.

Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor) plays a lovable and full of life deaf and mute guy who is in love with Shruti. She feels the same but because of parental pressure; she succumbs and marries a normal guy who’s rich. Then, Barfi meets Jhilmil, a simple girl who is mentally challenged. Years later, Barfi bumps into Shruti and sparks fly again, this time only from Shruti’s side. I will not disclose more than this.

Let me be completely honest with you. I am disappointed. Yup! The story is simple and nice and the treatment is good but the pace is not how I imagined. Yes, the background music and comedy is good but the screenplay is a bit of a drag. In the course of the movie, you’ll be looking for the direction the film is going in. I really liked the production design and look of the film though and Anurag Basu has directed the film well with whatever content he had in hand.

Ranbir Kapoor, as usual shines with his performance. He’s effortlessly lovable and totally convinces you that he is indeed Barfi! and no one can play it better than him. Priyanka Chopra’s performance is shockingly superb! I can say it’s her best performance till date because there wasn’t even a spoonful of Priyanka I could see in her acting. She’s played the character of Jhilmil very very well and even looks it! Ileana D’Cruz was also quite decent in her acting and looks so delicate and skinny that Priyanka looks like Tuntun in comparison. All the other actors also have acted well.

The music by Pritam is different and refreshing, especially the song that plays before the movie starts with the credits. I like the title song and another one that has a bit of a classical edge to it.

So, Barfi! is sweet as the name suggests with outstanding performances from Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor who definitely deserve awards.  Only, I wish the pace of the film was quicker and I wish there were more funny scenes with Ranbir Kapoor.

Agent Vinod- Movie Review

Roochster

The writer is confused, the director is confused, the actors are trying to act smart thinking it’s a James Bond movie, Saif (producer) and Kareena are honeymooning all over the world at the expense of the film which means you must NOT waste your hard earned money watching it and rather just log on to youtube and watch the songs ‘Dil Mera Muft Ka’ and ‘Pungi’.

I am Kalam- Movie Review

Roochster

I’d been looking forward to watching this movie for a long time now and I knew it would be great! Was it?

A little boy from Rajasthan, who works at a small dhaba has big dreams- to be educated, to stand on his own two feet, and make a lot of money. APJ Abdul Kalam is his hero and Rajput Ranvijay Singh is his only friend. He teaches his new friend Hindi and many other things while his friend teaches him English. This way they both learn and enjoy a friendship that is beautiful and meaningful.

The main child, Kalam (Harsh Mayar) is natural and very lovable as an actor. I also really liked Gulshan Grover. He didn’t play a ‘bad man’ in this movie and kind of even underplayed his character which was nice.

As a movie, I thought it started off beautifully with the Rajasthani folk music playing in the background which continued till the end. The setting was very real as were the dialogues. The cinematography was great too.

In its entirety, ‘I am Kalam’ is a good movie with barely any flaws; its sweet and a delight to watch. I recommend! Go watch!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2- Movie Review

Roochster

I can’t believe it’s over! It was a mixed feeling before the movie would release- excitement and disappointment. Excitement because it was the last movie and I just had to watch it and disappointment for the same reason. It would all be over and no more Harry Potter after this final movie except for watching them all again, of course!

In part 2 of Deathly Hallows, it’s about how Harry, Hermione and Ron are in search of the remaining horcruxes so that Lord Voldemort the gandu can be destroyed and everyone else at Hogwarts can live.

I had read the books ages ago so I didn’t remember all the details but I do know that what I saw in the movie was pretty gripping and I just couldn’t wait for Harry to finish the evil bastard!

Everything about the movie was good and I can’t really find too many faults with it except the part when Harry almost dies and spends some time talking to Dumbledore. That kind of slowed the movie down for me and even made me think it was a weird ending. But it continued and brought with it a proper climax. I just wish they didn’t show the last scene. I just felt it kind of spoilt the real excitement of the movie.

Otherwise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 was a great climax to all the Harry Potter movies. I would’t say it’s one of the best but it was good nonetheless. If you’ve read the books, do not miss it! Duh!

Delhi Belly- Movie Review

Roochster

I’ve been so looking forward to coming back and writing my review of Delhi Belly only because the movie is simply awesome and no one should miss it!

So what’s it about? Well, Imran Khan, Kunal Roy Kapoor and Vir Das live together in a not-so-clean-and-hygienic apartment in Delhi. They’re ambitionless, lazy and are struggling to pay off their rent. With a mistake in dropping off the right package to the right person, these three land themselves into a crazy mess involving diamonds, a brand new car, gundas and a bad belly through it all.

Delhi Belly according to me was just superb! From the beginning to the end, I was hooked on, in spite of the poor sound quality at Eros theatre, in spite of 4 annoying college kids talking about some stupid chat messages on FB behind me and in spite of not having seen the trailer before. I’d say it’s a movie for the youth of today from the big cities. The language, the setting, the dialogues and everything is very today and unpretentiously cool.

The director Abhinay Deo, the scriptwriter, the editor, the DOP and the entire cast and crew of Delhi Belly have done a brilliant job! For the first time I thought Imran Khan was perfect for the role and he’s done full justice to it. Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapoor are superb actors and made me laugh like crazy throughout the film. The ‘tatti’ scene was hilarious among other scenes. I didn’t think any actor in the film was added for the heck of it. They all added up to making the movie what it is. Even Shenaz Treasurywala, Vijay Raaz and Poorna Jagannathan are worth a mention for their performances.

I also felt that the music is unique and not something I’d listen to on my playlist but it’s perfect for the film and each song has been placed perfectly such that it doesn’t seem random.

Overall, Delhi Belly is pure adulterated fun, entertainment and awesomeness. This is what movies are all about! You’d be a fool to miss it!

Double Dhamaal- Movie Review

Roochster

I’ve seen Dhamaal and have laughed like crazy which is what drove me to watch Double Dhamaal. Was it as good as the first one? Aage padho!

So what’s the movie about? The four nuts Arshad Warsi, Riteish Deshmukh, Ashish Chowdhry and my favourite Javed Jaffrey  are struggling to make money for a living and they find Sanjay Dutt (their earlier tormentor) living the good life. The fun begins when they try to mess his life up and the tables turn on them.

To begin with, this movie is stupid, random and dumb in most parts so do not expect much when you go. Do not try to make sense of everything you see and trust me, you will find yourself laughing and having a good time. If you liked Ready, you definitely should like this. If not, then you’re a suck up who likes Ready only because Salman Khan is in it and that movie was very stupid and hardly funny!

Out here you’ve got actors who are great at comedy even though they’re not stars. Their comic timing is superb! Obviously now Mallika Sherawat and Kangana Ranaut (pigeon) are just there to show some cleavage; oh and let me add Ashish Chowdhry to that list too! 😉 There are some crazy-ass dialogues in the film that made me and my brother laugh like mad! For example, a man says “Gun de!” to which Javed Jaffrey replies saying “Tu ganda!” As I said, it’s not meant for people who don’t like or understand slapstick humour. The songs are random and come in from nowhere but the ‘Jalebi Bai’ song is something I can listen to some more and get used to even though it’s is something I can listen to some more and get used to even though it’s an absurd name for a song!

Double Dhamaal wasn’t as good as the first one but it wasn’t bad either. It’s one of those movies I can watch again if it comes on Tv. Go watch it and have a good laugh!
