Casa Fiesta Resort, Patnem Beach, Goa

Roochster

Goa is one of my favourite places and a trip there once a year is almost mandatory now. This year, my birthday and a long Holi-Easter weekend coinciding meant Goa had to happen in March anyhow and I made sure it did!

To make a plan materialise, it takes a lot of patience and convincing. So obviously, deciding which group to go with, to get everyone to agree on things, dates, hotel, mode of travel, etc. would be a pain in the ass. With less time on my hands, I decided to ask some of my best friends who immediately agreed without any difficulties. After looking up for reasonably priced hotels online, Casa Fiesta in South Goa sounded like a decent bet keeping in mind our budgets.  By booking online and paying 50% advance, we were all set to go GOA!Casa Fiesta 1

Where is it located? Casa Fiesta Beach Resort is located in South Goa at Patnem beach. Be prepared to travel atleast 2 hours from Mapusa, Goa. This place is really far away! It took us 15 hours to reach from Mumbai. From Madgaon station it is about 45 kilometres. Patnem beach is about 10 minutes away from Palolem beach which is one of South Goa’s most commercial beaches in South Goa. Agonda beach is also pretty close.

Casa Fiesta 2 What’s Casa Fiesta like? Casa Fiesta beach bungalows are not for the finicky types. There are beach bungalows (100 mts away from the beach, where we stayed) and beach huts (on the beach). Be prepared to get no room service, no drinking water, no soap/shampoo, no swimming pool and no facilities you’re too used to being pampered with at other hotels. You’ll find that the entire room and porch shakes when anyone moves and that’s because the entire cottage stands on bamboos and is made of ply and hay. The rooms are bright blue with maroonish-red curtains and bright red carpets. Don’t be surprised to find a frog or tadpole in your bathroom. There are about 8 beach bungalows- 4 ac and 4 non-ac. There’s also a glitch in that. The ac in 2 bungalows next to each other will not work together. So if one room uses the ac, the other must compromise. We were lucky to have the first and last bungalow and didn’t have to compromise.

On the contrary, expect a clean, gorgeous and an almost empty beach calling out to you at a distance of not more than 100 mts, chilled out shacks on the beach that serve superb food & drinks and double up as the most romantic, candle-lit cafes to make every dinner memorable. Expect a local market selling everything ‘Goa’ when you walk from the hotel to the beach, friendly stray dogs that have nothing but love to give and take, fantastic porches outside every cottage, reasonably priced food, alcohol and stay.

Places around– If you’re in the mood to go clubbing or to more ‘happening’ places where the crowd is, you might have to travel all the way to North Goa which is about 2 hours away. Palolem, which is the commercial beach of South Goa brimming with tourists, fishermen and families will probably seem too much if you’re already staying at Patnem or Agonda but they have a long line of shacks on the beach and a bigger market in case you want to shop. If you do plan to go to Agonda, do visit Dunhill Beach Resort. Their restaurant is classy and has awesome food! If you plan to stick to Patnem, you’ll find that almost all the shacks serve superb food!

Casa Fiesta 3 Food– Go to Chillies for breakfast and have their combo meal. A Continental breakfast would have 1 tea/coffee, Choice of egg with bread, butter, jam, any juice. All this for just Rs. 170! Casa Fiesta, Tantra & Namaste for lunch or dinner are good options. Casa Fiesta’s Baked beans on Cheese is by far the best I’ve ever had! You will find Italian, Mexican, American, Chinese, Indian & Continental food. Sea food is obviously a must if you’re a non-vegetarian. If you’d like some beer to go along with your food, Kings is light and good. Your entire meal will not cost more than Rs. 250 per person.

How much? We went at the end of March and paid Rs. 1500 for a triple sharing AC bungalow. It is a bit much considering there aren’t too many facilities there but the proximity of the beach is a huge bonus! The non-ac rooms are of course, cheaper. We decided there and then we’d stay an extra night so they gave us a non-ac triple sharing room for Rs.800. The rates might differ if you plan to go in the peak season- October to February. The person to contact would be Mr. Jagdish Dhuri for your bookings. Once you’re there, find Mahesh and he’ll try to make sure you have a pleasant stay.

Verdict– Casa Fiesta at Patnem might not give you the luxuries or facilities you’d get in a hotel but it will make your entire trip to Goa worth it. I’d definitely go there again (with friends). This is one awesome getaway! For sure!

CityBliss- Wellness on Wheels, Mumbai- Review

Roochster

The first thing that caught my attention about CityBliss was the fact that it’s a spa on wheels! What a great concept that I just had to try it!

Spa on wheels? CityBliss, Wellness on Wheels is based in Bandra, Hill Road but they travel all over Mumbai to serve you. They have a metallic blue van which is fully equipped to offer you a great spa experience while you travel from one place to another. They have various therapies such as Foot Reflexology, Head Massage, Face Massage, Spa Manicure & Pedicure and Facial that can be done in the movable spa. The idea struck Swadeep Patil (the owner) when he was travelling in 2010. One thought led to another and before he knew it, he had a spa on wheels ready by June 2011 which started its blissful journey across Mumbai.

I took my best friend Komal along so we could try CityBliss together and plus I wanted some company to go to Mahim market for shopping so she came along gladly. We started off at Colaba and decided to go for half n hour of foot and half n hour of head massage. A lot of my friends were apprehensive about the whole spa on wheels deal thinking it would be some shady van with shady masseurs and so they asked me to be very careful. Luckily, I didn’t have to worry about any of that because the van was luxurious with polite and efficient staff. Also, we could see where we were going thanks to the camera attached to the front of the van and the screen in front of us.

Haha funny thing happened. Before getting the spa, Komal asks her masseuse, “So are you from Thailand?” The masseuse replies, “No we are from Manipur”. LOL! Popat!

The Experience– As we sat on the recliner chairs, we were given cute jute chappals to switch into which we barely wore for like 10 seconds and a soft sheet to cover ourselves. Our feet were washed with warm water and soap and then dried. Our massage started immediately then with Natures Co.’s lemon grass oil. The masseuses skillfully massaged our feet upto our knees, with perfect pressure. Komal and I were enjoying everyminute of it and before we knew it, our half n hour was over and our feet were wiped off with warm wet napkins. The next half n hour was going to be the head massage and we both knew we’d like that better. Our recliners were further reclined to rest our heads comfortably and their fingers worked their magic on our head, neck, back and arms with Rosemary oil from Nature’s Co. and relaxed us completely. We didn’t even realise where our half n hour went; I was almost asleep because of how blissful it was. Soon, we reached our destination, thanked them and left. The massage was truly amazing.

How much? For a truly luxurious, convenient and blissful experience, CityBliss comes at a price. If you book the van for 2, a foot/head massage for 30 mins (upto 10kms) would cost Rs.675 + taxes per person.  60 minutes (20kms) would cost Rs. 1050 + taxes per person and so on. If you choose to go alone, you’d be paying Rs. 900 + taxes and Rs. 1400 + taxes respectively. This cost is to save your travel money to go from one place to another and to make sure your time is blissfully spent. So I wouldn’t say its very expensive considering the value and quality of service.

Where and when? The van does not travel to Navi Mumbai, Thane, etc. and they operate from 11am to 11pm so make sure you book your appointment accordingly. Also, if your spa gets over in half n hour and you haven’t reached your desired location yet because of traffic, don’t worry, they wont throw you off the van. You can either sleep it off or extend your massage.

Websitehttp://www.citybliss.com/

Verdict– In between erratic schedules and crazy traffic in Mumbai, take a breather with CityBliss’s Spa on Wheels and just relax. If you know someone who’s getting married or want to gift someone something different and awesome, this is it! I recommend!

Sweet Desire, Bandra (w)- Review

Roochster

I hadn’t heard about this place, especially cause it sounds so corny and hadn’t even planned on trying it at all but somehow ended up walking in! I wanted to try a couple of desserts but would’ve been the only one because my friend Komal wasn’t having because of some stupid ‘baadha’ to not have any chocolates. Luckily, there were 2 other women who wanted to try the desserts too and we decided to dig into 3 desserts together. So random!

Desserts– At Sweet Desire you get everything sweet (duh!). Being the chocolate lover that I am, I decided to try the Chunky Chocolate cupcake which was amazing, probably one of the best cupcakes I’ve had till date! Melt in your mouths types. I think all 3 of us really liked it. We also had a petite pastry called ‘Opera’ which was a brilliant mix of chocolate and coffee, a hit mix! The last one we had was the molten chocolate mud cupcake. Now that was yummy and my favourite! Would’ve been nice to have some salty wafers around so we could try the macaroons ‘cause the sweetness in our mouths was overwhelming. They’re also into themed cakes and superb at them! We got to see some of them on their display with some beautiful artwork.

Ambience & Service– Located at Bandra west, close to Mini Punjab on Linking road, 16th road, Sweet Desire is a lovely dessert place! Lots of pink and white to make it look like a sweet li’l cupcake. The guy who stands behind the counter plays a very important role. He can either be fake and say everything is good or be honest and suggest what we should have that we’ll genuinely like. In this case, we got the latter (the guy who helps in making the right decision). So, very good service!

Prices– The Chunky Chocolate cupcake which was delicious was for Rs. 45. Opera (Chocolate-coffee cake) was for Rs. 85 and the Molten Chocolate Mud Cupcake was for Rs. 60. Not bad!

Verdict– Once you’re done with lunch or dinner, go to Sweet Desire for a happy ending. I’m definitely going back to try some more of their desserts!
