Grand Masti- Movie Review

Grand masti posterMasti was one of the first adult comedy films that the audience loved way back in 2004. I was really looking forward to watching Grand Masti just to see what new it had to offer when compared to the various other adult comedies that release every year. Here’s what I thought.

Three friends who are married, sex-starved and looking for some excitement in life, get invited to their college’s reunion. Once there, they meet three sexy women who seem like the perfect types to have a fling with and their wives wouldn’t even know. Things go awry when the boys realise that they are all related to a man who is the biggest nightmare they know. How long can the Grand Masti go on for?

With tons of clichés and adult humour, director Indra Kumar has made a sex comedy that is basically for the masses. Please go expecting nothing but slapstick humour that is not acceptable to all. To be honest, I had a great time. The comic timing of all the actors, the dialogues, the screenplay all go hand in hand. There isn’t anything great about the story. Even though it’s supposed to be a reunion, you wont find anything like a reunion happening throughout the movie except for maybe the end when everyone meets at the hall and dances together.

The art direction is superb! Lots of colours and props used to make the film as colourful as possible. Great cinematography by Rituraj Narain. The costumes of the women are a little too much but I guess they’ve supposed to be and that’s the point of a sex comedy- to titillate the audience, men and women. I like how the guys were styled though. Even though they’re nine years older, all three actors look young and fresh.

The background music makes the film more fun to watch but I wouldn’t say the same about the music of the film. Music directors Anand Raj Anand and Sanjeev Darshan have composed music that’s not worth listening to and could have been avoided.

Coming to the performances… Riteish Deshmukh as we all know is too good at comedy and his expressions are bang on. Vivek Oberoi too I have always liked as an actor and even with the over-the-top acting he’s a treat to watch. Aftab Shivdasani is great at comedy and should consider doing more comedy films like these. In a way, a lot has to do with the chemistry the three of them share. They’re fantastic together with comic timings that match very well. Suresh Menon is another one with great comic timing but his role does get a bit annoying. Manjari Phadnis and Karishma Tanna are the only actresses who can actually be considered actresses. The rest of them- Bruna Abdullah, Maryam Zakaria Kainaat Arora and Sonalee Kulkarni are only about the body and looks.

Overall, Grand Masti is fun, entertaining and extremely corny so watch it only if you’re not going to be over-critical and judge everything you see.

CityBliss- Wellness on Wheels, Mumbai- Review

The first thing that caught my attention about CityBliss was the fact that it’s a spa on wheels! What a great concept that I just had to try it!

Spa on wheels? CityBliss, Wellness on Wheels is based in Bandra, Hill Road but they travel all over Mumbai to serve you. They have a metallic blue van which is fully equipped to offer you a great spa experience while you travel from one place to another. They have various therapies such as Foot Reflexology, Head Massage, Face Massage, Spa Manicure & Pedicure and Facial that can be done in the movable spa. The idea struck Swadeep Patil (the owner) when he was travelling in 2010. One thought led to another and before he knew it, he had a spa on wheels ready by June 2011 which started its blissful journey across Mumbai.

I took my best friend Komal along so we could try CityBliss together and plus I wanted some company to go to Mahim market for shopping so she came along gladly. We started off at Colaba and decided to go for half n hour of foot and half n hour of head massage. A lot of my friends were apprehensive about the whole spa on wheels deal thinking it would be some shady van with shady masseurs and so they asked me to be very careful. Luckily, I didn’t have to worry about any of that because the van was luxurious with polite and efficient staff. Also, we could see where we were going thanks to the camera attached to the front of the van and the screen in front of us.

Haha funny thing happened. Before getting the spa, Komal asks her masseuse, “So are you from Thailand?” The masseuse replies, “No we are from Manipur”. LOL! Popat!

The Experience– As we sat on the recliner chairs, we were given cute jute chappals to switch into which we barely wore for like 10 seconds and a soft sheet to cover ourselves. Our feet were washed with warm water and soap and then dried. Our massage started immediately then with Natures Co.’s lemon grass oil. The masseuses skillfully massaged our feet upto our knees, with perfect pressure. Komal and I were enjoying everyminute of it and before we knew it, our half n hour was over and our feet were wiped off with warm wet napkins. The next half n hour was going to be the head massage and we both knew we’d like that better. Our recliners were further reclined to rest our heads comfortably and their fingers worked their magic on our head, neck, back and arms with Rosemary oil from Nature’s Co. and relaxed us completely. We didn’t even realise where our half n hour went; I was almost asleep because of how blissful it was. Soon, we reached our destination, thanked them and left. The massage was truly amazing.

How much? For a truly luxurious, convenient and blissful experience, CityBliss comes at a price. If you book the van for 2, a foot/head massage for 30 mins (upto 10kms) would cost Rs.675 + taxes per person.  60 minutes (20kms) would cost Rs. 1050 + taxes per person and so on. If you choose to go alone, you’d be paying Rs. 900 + taxes and Rs. 1400 + taxes respectively. This cost is to save your travel money to go from one place to another and to make sure your time is blissfully spent. So I wouldn’t say its very expensive considering the value and quality of service.

Where and when? The van does not travel to Navi Mumbai, Thane, etc. and they operate from 11am to 11pm so make sure you book your appointment accordingly. Also, if your spa gets over in half n hour and you haven’t reached your desired location yet because of traffic, don’t worry, they wont throw you off the van. You can either sleep it off or extend your massage.

Verdict– In between erratic schedules and crazy traffic in Mumbai, take a breather with CityBliss’s Spa on Wheels and just relax. If you know someone who’s getting married or want to gift someone something different and awesome, this is it! I recommend!

Kyaa SuperKool Hain Hum- Movie Review

I was really looking forward to watching Kyaa SuperKool Hain Hum after watching all the trailers. I thought they were hilarious and totally crazy! Now, let’s get down to my review.

Coming to the story- What story? Haha what I mean is that there’s no story, just random scenes or jokes put together to create one sex comedy. It involves 2 guys with no ambition in life and aren’t particularly working, who have a double meaning for everything! They come across 2 beauties and chase them around and even land up in Goa with their pug ‘Sakru’ who is the doggy version of ‘Vicky Donor’. After that I don’t know what to say because there’s no story only just tons of pjs and double meaninged jokes.

So, as I said, there’s no story so let me not get into talking about that. Ekta Kapoor’s mantra is ‘Sex sells’ so she’s made sure there’s plenty of sexual innuendos and ‘non-veg’ jokes throughout that will make the college crowd go mad. And to be honest, people were laughing out loud, clapping and whistling throughout. Its clearly a movie for the masses. The styling is good, the hair artist has done a fab job, superb locations and colours! I also felt that Riteish Deshmukh hasn’t looked this good before. He’s worked on his body and he’s showing off his new tattoos on his arms and chest all through the movie. There’s a lot of adverts placed in the movie too- Lawman, Moods Condoms, Global Advertisers, Nimbuzz, Ipill to name a few.

Some of the dialogues are really bad; For example: Riteish Deshmukh at a pani puri stall says, :”Aane ragdo mane chaat’. Very old joke! Also , one of the pugs who Anupam Kher calls his mother is called ‘Rose Mary Maarlo’. Quite old and quite sad too! Many more of those in the movie. There are also some really funny jokes like when Riteish Deshmukh meets this gay guy at a bar and that guy says, “Haha you’re witty” to which Riteish says, “Haha you’re Churchgate”. Now that’s a joke only people in Mumbai will understand. That really cracked me up though!

Coming to the performances, I think Riteish Deshmukh is very good with his comic timing and has done a good job, Tusshar should stick to his ‘Golmaal’ role where he doesn’t need to do much, except for maybe the ‘Chingum’ scene where he acts like Ajay Devgan! Now that was hilarious! Sarah Jane Dias and Neha Sharma look hot and have done a decent job acting also.

Yeh picture itni ‘kool’ bhi nahin lekin phir bhi timepass hai. Dekhna hai toh dekho bhai!
