Dabangg 2- Movie Review

Dabangg-2-PosterDabangg as a movie was ok and I was expecting better from part 2. But I guess experience says that sequels are rarely as good as or better than the first movies and in the case of Dabangg 2, I have to agree.

So, Chulbul Pandey (Salman Khan) is happily married to Rajjo (Sonakshi Sinha) and stays in Kanpur with her, Makkhi (Arbaaz Khan) and their father (Vinod Khanna). This time he has a new enemy- Baccha bhaiyya and his brothers. Now, the crux of the story is this- Villian bullies people from town and Chulbul, Chulbul kills villain’s brother. Villain takes badla and attacks Chulbul’s pregnant wife and brother. Chulbul doesn’t take that too well and fights bare-chested in the last sequence to create dramatic effect. Haha

Ok so the story of the movie as you read above is quite useless. Arbaaz Khan as a director has tried his best to keep up the standard by using the best editors, action directors, cinematographers, stylists and production designers. However, he failed to work on the screenplay and dialogues which were much better in the first Dabangg. Somehow, I was pretty bored throughout in spite of seeing my favourite Salman Khan in the movie. There was barely any humour or emotional connect with the characters except for that one scene when Salman Khan is crying like a baby.

Coming to the performances… Salman Khan is such a star that even if he says dialogues half heartedly, people love him (including me). I understand that he’s supposed to have attitude and style in the movie but in Dabangg 2 he’s sort of taken the audience for granted and it seems as though he’s just been woken up and pushed to act. Sonakshi Sinha is lovely! She not only looks beautiful but also convinces as Chulbul’s wife. Prakash Raj who was brilliant in Singham was good here too but he didn’t have much meat to his character because it was all given to Salman Khan. I thought Deepak Dobriyal (the guy who plays Genda) was very good too. Arbaaz Khan was too busy being a director to bother paying attention to acting instead of just mugging lines.

The music of the film by Sajid Wajid is decent. The song ‘Dagabaaz’ is really well sung and good to listen to. ‘Fevicol’ is a great dance number with crazy lyrics!

Overall, Dabangg 2 goes one step lower in comparison to Dabangg and I’m very disappointed. I still love Salman Khan though! 😛

Hum Aapke Hain Koun?

This might be really random but I just watched a random episode of Koffee with Karan from the previous season last night on TV and Maduri Dixit Nene was Karan’s guest. To be honest, as much as I want to say that there are a lot of talented actresses now, I can’t! To me, she is the best there will ever be!

I admit Kajol is another great actress in Bollywood but Madhuri Dixit is just beauty personified. She acts well, dances well, looks beautiful and has even managed to have a movie named after her! What sucks is that she doesn’t come in movies anymore! I remember as a kid, I had seen a lot of her movies- Ram Lakhan, Beta, Tezaab, Khalnayak, Dil, 100 days, Saajan, Dil tera aashiq, Dil to pagal hai, my favourite Hum Aapke Hain Koun and of course many many more! I really really miss her and hope she starts acting again!

Salman Khan… this man has totally blown me away, in so many ways! Movies like  Maine Pyaar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Saajan, Love, Judwaa, Karan Arjun, Khamoshi, Jab pyaar kisise hota hai, Chandra Mukhi, Andaaz Apna Apna, Dil tera aashiq, Pyar kiya to darna kya, Hum dil de chuke sanam, Mujhse shaadi karogi, Wanted, the most popular now Dabangg and so many more have made him what he is-a Heartthrob for millions of women across the world! I can’t explain my love for him when people ask me. It’s not just the way he looks…there’s something about him…he’s my dream man! I know a lot of people will laugh and say things I don’t want to hear but I think its something only people who love him will understand.  Dil zor se dhadakta hai everytime I see him say a romantic dialogue in his movies or when I see him smile that killer smile or dance oh-so-cutely! I understand he’s been through a lot of shit in the past with the black buck case and the accident and his girlfriend list but to me he is “THE SALMAN KHAN” and I love him unconditionally.

And the reason I’m writing this blog is that both Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan, my favourites have acted in my favourite movie of all time- Hum Aapke Hain Koun. The entire movie was so beautiful that I can watch it how many ever times! It was so simple and yet so beautifully filled with all the emotions possible that I’m sure very few people might’ve not liked the movie. The songs are great and I loved how Pehla Pehla pyaar hai is shot…The way Salman looks at Madhuri in that song in the kitchen, when she opens the fridge and he shuts it and she blushes and then how he opens her hair and she wants to run away but he pulls her close…and she’s blushing all the while. Man! So romantic! It gives me goosebumps everytime I see that video!  So yeah, as a movie Hum Aapke Hain Koun has all the right ingredients and both Madhuri and Salman are excellent in it!

I remember clearly the first time I saw Salman Khan at the International Airport when I went to drop my cousins. 8th April 1998. I was wearing dangris and a tshirt inside and went mad that night! He was with Somy Ali then. I ran just to get an autograph from him and then when I got back, the next day I went and Xeroxed like 20 copies and distributed them to people in my class! Well, that was more than 10 years ago! J Back then, I also collected posters, post cards, newspaper cut-outs etc. of him. That was mad love! And trust you me, my love for him hasn’t reduced one bit (only I don’t do stupid things anymore) although I may not yell it out to the world, I know deep in my heart that I love him like crazy!

I may be a random fan, ok crazy random fan if I may say so, but I truly vouch for every word I say! I love both these actors and they’ll always be my favourites! Hum Aapke Hain Koun will always be my favourite film too! I do hope they get to read this somehow and just know that they have a fan called Ruchi Mehta who loves them for who they are and what they have achieved in life.

And in case you’re reading this Salman Khan, I love you. Truly, madly, deeply.

Dabangg- Movie Review

Chulbul “Salman Khan” Pandey has done it again! His cool style, dialogue delivery, the dances, the action, the smile, the filminess…uffff! I’m floored… by him…not the movie!

Dabangg means fearless. Chulbul Pandey (Salman Khan) is a fearless, corrupt cop who also calls himself “Robinhood Pandey”. He’s got a sad family life but his love life becomes hot and happening after he meets Rajo (Sonakshi Sinha). He has a step brother, Makkhan Pandey (Arbaaz Khan) who is slightly dumb. He gets influenced by a corrupt wanna-be politician and starts killing people for the politician so that he gets some money to pay his father’s hospital bills. Later he realizes he’s being used as he was asked to kill his own brother. But then he realizes and blah blah blah.

Salman Khan is awesome! The moustache looks great on him and he still manages to look handsome in the movie in spite of wearing pants and shirts and police-ki-vardi. The way he delivers his dialogues, dances, does his action scenes, you’d just be staring at him, especially if you’re a crazy fan like me! Sonakshi Sinha is a breath of fresh air! She’s beautiful and acts very well! I think she’s going to be a great actress in Bollywood! The story is a bit thanda… almost pointless. Mahesh Manjrekar shouldn’t have been there at all!

The action scenes are a class apart! They remind me of how the directors from the south make films. Great action cuts! There are some comedy scenes which are decent because of the dialogues but there are a lot of scenes in the movie which were just irrelevant. Being a 2 hours ka movie it felt long! The first half was quite slow. The music is good but the songs are placed anyhow which kinda spoils it! The song ‘Munni badnaam hui’ is kickass and you can’t get enough of Malaika Arora Khan!

Overall, it’s ok…there are a lot of WTF moments in the movie…can be watched once.  This one is for all the crazy Salman Khan fans out there! 😉
