Shen Reflexology, Khar (w)- Review

Roochster

Shen ReflexologyEveryone deserves some pampering, especially when it relaxes not just your body, but also your mind and soul. I am grateful to Shweta, the owner of Shen Reflexology, Khar for having Karan and me over to try two of their therapies. Here’s how it went.

So I had been to Shen on a friend’s (Aditya Kripalani) recommendation more than 5 years ago, when the place had opened in a mall in Bandra. I don’t remember which therapy I had tried there but I remember it was a really good experience and the therapists were very good at their work. It was by chance that Shweta came across my blog and contacted me to come try it just a couple of days ago and with a smile on my face I wrote back saying I’d be very happy to. And there we were… all set to relax and get pampered at Shen.

The massage rooms are dimly lit with soothing music to set the mood and make you feel completely relaxed.

Hand & Foot Reflexology Combo (30 mins Hand and 30 mins Foot- Rs. 950)– I’d been wanting to try the Hot Stone therapy as that’s something I haven’t tried yet but Shweta didn’t recommend it considering the heat and humidity we have in Mumbai currently, breaking between Summer and Monsoon. After looking at the service list, I opted for the Hand & Foot Reflexology Combo while Karan went for the Shiatsu (Japanese style full body reflexology). Both these therapies go on for one hour and 15-20 mins. The room I was led to was specifically for hand, foot, back, head and other dry therapies. As I rested on my recliner chair, the skilled fingers of my therapist worked their magic on my feet, legs, hands and arms. I was totally relaxed and could feel he stiffness in my body reduce drastically with the perfect pressure. A surprise fifteen minutes of head, back, shoulders and knees massage was like icing on the cake. But there was more. A cup of herbal tea was the finishing touch.

Shaitsu Body Massage (90 mins- Rs. 1800)– This is a Japanese healing method to strengthen the body and keep the body’s energy flowing. I was super jealous that Karan was going for this massage because I wanted to go for that too. The masseur used his fingers, elbows, palms, knuckles, knees and feet to work on the body’s acupuncture points and I could just see how relaxed Karan looked when he came out. He said it was painful when the pressure was applied and in a second the body was more at ease and it felt like heaven. Ugghhh so jealous!

All the therapies are more affordable than most of the other spas everywhere. The best thing is that they have packages which offer complimentary sessions which means that you eventually spend atleast 30-40% lesser.

Go try! – You can call them on 022 26055578 or 9930717676 and book your appointment after carefully selecting your therapy on their website- www.shenreflexology.com

Their address- G3, Heera House, Junction of 1st and 12th road, between Citibank and MadhuPark, Khar west, Mumbai 52.

Verdict– Professional, efficient and totally worth your money, Shen Reflexology is a must try! I recommend!

Kerry on Kutton- Movie Review

Kerry on Kutton is raw in all aspects except for the performances of all the actors which help in adding some tadka to an otherwise average film.

The Serial Griller, Andheri (W)- Review

Roochster

The Serial GrillerThe Serial Griller is such a cool name for a burger joint, no? Well, I have to say that the burgers are just as cool.

Let me give you a short background of the owner- cum- Burger chef Annant Chowdhary, who, by the way is a marketing professional when he’s not cooking up delicious burgers on the weekends and post work hours on weekdays. He said he’s always wanted to start his own restaurant and had to give it a shot to really make it happen. And that’s when ‘The Serial Burger’ happened. For now he’s operating from his home in Andheri and delivers to people living in and around Andheri.

What we had– The menu has about six burgers to choose from, out of which two are vegetarian. You also have an option to DIY (Do it yourself) by choosing the ingredients and sauces. Pretty neat! The burger I had is called the Jungle Bandit (Rs. 219) which is basically a huge slab of cottage cheese cooked well and placed between carrots, onions, capsicum, lettuce, tomatoes and a nice smearing of roast garlic and Garden mayo. You know, being a vegetarian, there aren’t any burgers that I really love apart from the AlooTikki burger from Mac Donald’s. The Jungle Bandit kind of changes that for me. I thought the burger was saucy & moist and immensely satisfying. Karan had the ‘American Mafia’ burger (Rs. 219) which is a minced chicken patty on a bed of grilled carrots, onions, jalapenos and some mustard mayo. He loved the chicken patty and choice of sauce and veggies inside the burger but felt that burger bun could have been better. We had both these burgers with some fries and Coke. The fries were perfect!

How to order? As of now they’re taking orders post 8: 30pm on weekdays and from 12pm to 11pm on weekends. If you stay around Andheri, they can deliver. Contact: 82910 75654/655

Verdict- I highly recommend the burgers we tried and look forward to trying some more burgers very soon! Value for money!

Captain America Civil War- Movie Review

Roochster

captain-america-civil-war-poster
OK let me be honest with you. I am not an Avengers fan. Also, I haven’t seen any Captain America movie so this was a first. I was invited to go for the special preview at PVR Phoenix and I was super excited! Sadly no plus ones allowed and I think Karan was quite jealous cause then he said, ‘Its ok Captain America is anyway boring’ to which I said, “you’re just like the fox who said the grapes our sour cause we couldn’t reach them” 😛 😛 Anyway, here’s what I thought of it.

Plot in short– While the Avengers are doing their best to save people and the world, sometimes, unintentionally it leads to collateral damage. This makes the government doubt the accountability of the superheroes. While Captain America (Chris Evans) believes superheroes must be given full freedom to be themselves and continue helping people while Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) thinks it’s best to let the government take a call on how to protect the country. Standing strong against each other, the Avengers are forced to take sides resulting in a Civil War.

IMG_20160429_180449722The Good-Even though this is supposed to be a ‘Captain America’ film, Ironman Robert Downey Jr. kind of owns it. Some other noteworthy performances come from Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Anthony Mackie and Paul Rudd. The action sequences were well choreographed, especially the ones that involved Spiderman. In fact, I think I loved all the parts that had Spiderman. The computer graphics are great in parts and alright in some.

The Not-so-good– I must admit, Avengers is so not my thing and Captain America who I wanted to watch was really not the most important part of the film. Ironman got more screen time and had better screen presence too. I also have to say that I was quite bored in many parts. There is drama, humour, action, yes but the film is not action packed and fast paced as I had imagined and wished it to be. It was a bit of a drag.

IMG_20160429_173356655_HDRVerdict– Captain America/ Avengers is probably not my thing and if you’re a crazy superhero fan, you’re definitely giving me gaalis right now.  It was just a bit better than ok.

Ganga- The Soul of India- Show Launch

Roochster

IMG_20160419_153653642_HDRI was invited for the launch event that took place on 19th April 2016 at Four Seasons Hotel, Worli, Mumbai.  I can’t tell you how excited I was, more so because I was going to see Dia Mirza in person. I think she’s one of the most beautiful, poised and positive actresses we have in Bollywood.

Freishia 1The event was hosted by the lovely Freishia who I’ve seen at many events before and also on the show Band Baaja Bride. After a short trailer of the show, she introduced to us Mr. Piyush Sharma, CEO (India & APAC) of Living Group, Zee Entertainment, Mr. Amit Nair, the Business head at Living Foodz and Mr. Shrikant Malladi, the head of programming for the Living Foodz channel. They spoke about the concept, the experience and how Dia Mirza was the perfect person to host the show.

Ganga- The Soul of India

IMG_20160419_155841107 IMG_20160419_155926178 IMG_20160419_155948779Once the short speeches were done, it was time to see the beautiful lady herself- Dia Mirza who made a grand entry on stage. She looked absolutely gorgeous in her Ritu Kumar full length dress and Amrapali earrings. She spoke to us in the audience about her new show.

So what is the show about?

It is Dia’s fascinating journey along the Ganges on ‘Ganga- The Soul of India’ which is all set to air on the  Living Foodz channel. From the 1st of May 2016, every Sunday at 12 noon and 7pm, Dia Mirza will give viewers a peek into the fascinating legacy that is shaped by the country’s longest river. The show explores all that the river has to offer, including the people, history, mythology, anthropology, adventure, music and of course the cuisine animated by its revered waters.

Unveiling of the book

Unveiling of Ganga- The soul of India

This was followed by an unveiling of the book- Ganga from which she read an excerpt. The core team behind the show along with Dia then sat down to answer all the questions from the media. She spoke about the different kinds of food she got to eat, the adventurous activities and spiritual experiences. There were some controversial questions like what she feels about the polluted Ganga, etc. and she handled them all with so much dignity, not hurting any religious sentiments, rather encouraging the youth and NGOs who are spending so much time and efforts to clean up the Ganga. She also told us how there were 11 cameras following her everywhere but this experience was nothing like acting in a film. This is the real her we will get to see on the show and she feels fortunate to explore India is such a wonderful way. I knew I wouldn’t get the opportunity again so as nervous as I was, I asked Dia a question and before that told her that I think she’s beautiful and if I were to compare her to Ganga I would use the word ‘Pure’. Before people would start getting annoyed ‘cause I was taking up time, I quickly asked her, ‘What were her favourite villages/ towns that she visited?’ At first she said it was the entire journey that was enriching but then mentioned ‘Harsil’ from where she got the most amazing view of the Himalayas and ‘Santhal’ which was so green with so many flowers and such nice people.

The Living Foodz team with Dia Mirza

Mine was the last question followed by a photo session by the media and then some of us were in line to get a picture with her. When she saw me coming, she blew me a flying kiss as a thank you probably ‘cause of what I said? Then when I went up on stage, I told her that I’ve been a big fan of hers since Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein and I’d really like a picture with her. She was more than happy to pose for a selfie with me. Yayyy! Day was made.

Selfies with Dia Mirza, the beauty.

The event was followed by High Tea consisting of tea/coffee, Aam panna, Chhaas, Pani Puri, tikkis and tikkas, Jalebis and Rabdi, Panna Cotta and Gulab Jamun Crème Brulee on the menu. I was too happy to bother about the food for the first time probably. Yayy yayy yayy!

I can’t wait to watch Ganga- The Soul of India from 1st May. It looks like a show you mustn’t miss.

Mumbai Cocktail Week 2016

Roochster

I was invited to go for the Mumbai Cocktail Week Closing Party that took place at Mahalaxmi Racecourse on 9th April 2016. This event was the last day of the week-long celebration of cocktail craftsmanship in 100+ celebrated bars in Mumbai.

The closing event was in association with the Worli Festival. There were various stalls at the venue and a big stage where several artists performed. Unfortunately, there were barely 100 people at the venue among which were some of us bloggers.

The event was from 4pm to 10pm and it coincided with a horse race event so sound was also a problem during performances.

Overall, it was a disappointing event but we made the most of it with some drinks from the bar made by Mumbai Cocktail Week’s expert bartender.

Here are some pictures from the Mumbai Cocktail Week Closing Party.

Fan- Movie Review

Roochster

fan-movie posterI hadn’t seen the trailer of Fan and neither did I know Shahrukh Khan was playing a double role until I came home and opened a website to read the names of the cast of the film. Hawww! How could I not know it was him only!

Plot in short– Aryan Khanna (Shahrukh Khan) has a huge fan following but there’s one in particular called Gaurav Chadna (Shahrukh Khan)  who would do anything to get just five minutes with the star, to show him his trophy that he won in a talent contest and to offer him some Son Halwa sent by his parents. But one incident spoils everything and turns the fan into a creep and imposter. Will this madness ever stop and how?

The Good– Shahrukh Khan is definitely the best part about the film. In terms of creepiness, remember how creepy-scary Darr was? This is that multiplied 5 times. I was quite creeped out and my heart was beating fast thinking of what would happen next throughout the film. Shahrukh Khan as the fan is actually better than Shahrukh playing Aryan Khanna. The make up and hair artist and stylist play a huge part in making him look the way he looks. Kudos to them! The screenplay and direction is fantastic! Maneesh Sharma takes the story to another level by using the actors’ full potential.

The Not-so-good– There are several things that I found a bit stupid. For example how people barely notice the Aryan Khanna look-alike when he’s walking on the street or when he fools the guards of Aryan Khanna’s mansion and reaches the star’s house inside, almost fooling the wife. But suddenly people recognize him in London at Madam Tussaud’s museum. Also, I felt that it was rather lame for the star to be chasing his fan single handedly when he has the power to call the cops, involve goons and what not to get rid of pschopaths like Gaurav.

Verdict– Ignore the stupidity and enjoy ‘Fan’ for what it is. A thrilling, engaging and entertaining film that one must watch. Hats off to Shahrukh Khan for his best performance yet. For once I can say he deserves an award.

Rating– 4/5

P.S.- Prepare to be totally creeped out!
