Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows- Movie Review

It’s clearly not my kind of movie and even though the cinematography, direction, setting and acting deserve awards, I just felt that the plot could’ve been more interesting and the film shorter.

On the Go, Bandra (w) – Review

Bandra never fails to come up with new restaurants every now and then and even though On the Go has been around for some time now, I just very recently went to check it out. And here’s what I thought of it.

Food– On the Go serves Italian, Mexican, Continental, Oriental, sandwiches, burgers, salads, etc. So there’s plenty of stuff to choose from.  Since my friend wasn’t going to eat at all, and I was super hungry, I decided to call for a Cottage Cheese Roulade (Steaks of fresh cottage cheese marinated in herbs and rolled in spinach puree, served with creamy paprika sauce), Cheesy garlic bread and my friend had a Lime Iced Tea. I felt that the roulade was too bland. It sounded really yum on the menu but after trying it I wished I had called for something else. Also, the quantity was not enough. There were 4 cubes of raw paneer and a small rice lump on the side. Presentation-wise yes, it was very good but taste-wise, I wouldn’t recommend it. The cheesy garlic bread was good and cheesy as expected luckily. The lime iced tea was good.

Ambience– Located at Bandra west, near Mt. Mary Steps, On the Go is a small place at a turning point. It’s literally an ‘On the go’ place. The décor is simple, comfortable and nice- normal café type.

Service– They were quite prompt and quick in their service so no complaints there. They also asked us if we liked the dish which not many places do. So good going there!

Prices– The prices are fine and pretty reasonable but I just felt that the food was not worth the prices. The roulade was for Rs. 180, Cheesy Garlic bread for Rs. 65 and Lime Iced tea for Rs. 50. So that’s about 300 bucks for one person (‘cause my friend just had a few bites).

Verdict– On the Go is decent but taste-wise it can definitely get better. I’d go there again to try some more dishes.

Don 2- Movie Review

You know, I was really really looking forward to watching Don 2, not because I love Shahrukh Khan but because I loved Don. Let’s see if this sequel is as good as the real shit.

In this movie, Don, a.k.a SRK gets himself arrested to join Vardhan (Boman Irani) in prison obviously because he has something big in mind. He wants to rob currency printing plates from a German bank and Boman Irani is the key to doing that with the help of a hacker (Kunal Kapoor). Roma (Priyanka Chopra) is a cop and obviously trying to get hold of Don not only because that’s her job, but also because she ‘laaouuus’ him.  So it’s basically based on the line, ‘Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahin, naamumkin hai’.

First of all, Shah Rukh Khan already gave us one stupid film this year- Ra.One. Second of all, Don was so good, but somehow Don 2 just lacks everything that could have made one hell of an awesome film! Farhan Akhtar is a good director and has an amazing eye for the way a film should look but he just isn’t good enough. The story lacks the thrills and freshness we saw in Don. The whole plot of the movie goes for a toss. Most of the movie is predictable.

Shahrukh Khan is getting older by the day and it shows- in the way he looks and the way he acts. The way he said his dialogues in the earlier Don were a 100 times more effective than in this one! His romantic scenes with Priyanka Chopra were good though. In fact, she was pretty good- not too loud or heroine-type. She played her part well. I also liked Boman Irani even though he had a small role.

The music is ok, not as good as Don’s. Even then, the look of the film (clothes, cinematography, and sets) is classy and looks very International!  Kudos to Farhan Akhtar for that!

Oh story for you! My friend and I had gone to Eros to watch the theatre. The crowd was crazy! People were yelling for most of the first half of the movie, there were drunk men dancing with fake guns on stage later they got slapped and dragged out by cops and to watch that half the theatre went out. So you can imagine what was more interesting to watch!

Mission Impossible 4 Ghost Protocol- Movie Review

This movie is clearly not my type as it made me feel restless and slightly bored, even with the gadgets, technology, etc. I just didn’t see myself connect with the second half of it and also felt that Anil Kapoor was such a waste!

Ladies vs Ricky Bahl- Movie Review

I’ve loved Anushka Sharma since her first film and liked Ranveer Singh in his but I absolutely loved them together in Band Baaja Baaraat and couldn’t wait to watch Ladies vs Ricky Bahl for the same reason. Was the movie any good though? You’re just about to find out!

Ricky Bahl (Ranveer Singh) is a conman who’s conned more than 30 rich beautiful girls for money. He changes his look and city to avoid getting caught. Out of the 30 dumb girls, there’s one smart girl who gets hold of two others and they pull in (Ishika) Anushka Sharma, who’s a brilliant salesgirl to con the charmer. The rest of the story is predictable so I wont say anymore.

If you’re a girl who’s filmy, romantic and loves Bollywood, here’s a movie you just can’t miss! The story is simple but the treatment is great! Superb screenplay, brilliant cinematography and colours (Yashraj never goes wrong with that ever!), lovely sets, make-up and costumes, realistic dialogues and acting, ok music and superb direction. There aren’t too many faults I could find in this film to be honest. It was just pure entertainment and fun throughout.

Ranveer Singh in this movie is just fantastic! He not only looks good but also acts well and I love the way he says ‘I love you’! I just melted when he said it! 😛 Anushka Sharma is gorgeous! She has amazing screen presence and anything she wears looks as if it’s just made for her. She’s a natural actor and I love the way she delivers her dialogues. All the supporting actors are also very good but I’ll specially mention the girl who plays ‘Dimple’. She’s got the best lines and was just perfect for the role with superb comic timing! She definitely deserves an award for the best supporting actress!

Ladies vs Ricky Bahl might not appeal to a lot of guys but most girls will love it even though it is predictable. It’s a fun film and I think you should watch it!

The Dirty Picture- Movie Review

When I heard that ‘The Dirty Picture’ is based on Silk Smitha’s life, I quickly did a Google search and found out that she had done a small role in the movie ‘Sadma’ with Kamal Hasan and she looked extremely horny and weird. Why would anyone make a movie about Silk Smitha and why would Vidya Balan put on so much weight for a movie?! Read on.

The Dirty Picture is about Silk Smitha’s life. Reshma (Vidya Balan) runs away from home searching for work that will make her rich and famous. As luck would have it, even with her simple looks, she manages to get a song in a movie. People don’t like the movie, but when they see her sensuous moves and kaatil adaayein, she becomes the most wanted girl and everyone wants to sign her in their films. From Reshma, she becomes Silk and men love her, want her and can’t get enough of her. But is there anything besides money and fame in her life?

Ekta Kapoor knows what works and what doesn’t. She’s made a smart move and created a film that will be remembered not only for Vidya Balan’s acting and passion to be the character she plays, but everything about the movie replicates a person’s life we knew nothing about. To me that is a big deal. The story is very well played out and each character is well defined. The dialogues are superb and I love the way everything from the 80s ka setting to the costumes to the songs look so real and suit the time she lived in. The whole crew and especially the director Milan Luthria have done a damn good job!

Vidya Balan is the star of the show, undoubtedly! I can’t imagine any actress who’d put on 12 kgs for a movie, jeopardizing her film career. She deserves a standing ovation and hats off to her for pulling it off so beautifully! She looks fantastic even though she has an ugly paunch in the movie and acts effortlessly! RESPECT! She can probably be called the female Aamir Khan in Bollywood who does films because they mean something and not just to make money or whatever other reasons other actors have. She definitely deserves all the awards this year! Naseeruddin Shah might be old but does such a good job that you’d feel no one else would match up to him for the part of Surya. Tusshar Kapoor plays a lallu in the movie and luckily didn’t have a big role so he was quite ok. Emraan Hashmi has acted decently but his voice is quite irritating and monotonous!

The movie has only 3 songs out of which Ooh Lala is just too good and I can’t stop dancing everytime I listen to it thanks to Bappi Lahiri. Even Ishq Sufiyana is lovely.

The Dirty Picture is one of the best movies of 2011 and I totally recommend it! Go watch it in a single screen theatre to really enjoy it! Superb hai boss!

iCremeso, Fort- Review

Here’s a new ice-cream place in town! What sets it apart from the others? Read further to find out.

Not just another ice cream– The thing about this place is that the ice cream is made in front of you. No, it’s not like Ice Stone Factory where you can choose add -ons to the ice cream and mix them together. Out here, it’s made from scratch, meaning the milk you choose (normal/yogurt/low-fat/soya) is put in a machine and some nitrogen gas is used to freeze it into ice cream after which the flavour you choose is added from an injection type of tube. Then you can choose toppings to make your ice cream yummier. All the flavours they have here don’t contain any preservative which is a good thing. As of now, I don’t think they have waffle cones but I hope they introduce them soon!

Where is it? – iCremeso is located at Fort, opposite the famous Sterling Cineplex. It shares space with Billo’s Café and you might find it a little small but its ok for an ice cream place.

What we had– As of now they only have the normal milk and yogurt and only serve in medium and large cups. I had the Chocolate Hazelnut flavour and Oreo sprinkles as a topping. I really liked it but wished it tasted more chocolaty. One friend had the Orange Toblerone flavour with Gummy bears. Both my friends liked it but I didn’t because of the orange taste. Another friend had the Raspberry flavour with MnMs. I liked it but liked mine better! 😛 There are many more flavours to try- Blueberry, passion fruit, Biscottino, Bubble gum, Green tea, etc.

How much? – The small cup is for Rs. 65, medium for Rs. 90 and large for Rs. 140. I must admit one thing- the scoop is a little small for the price. We all had medium cups thinking they were small.

Verdict– I definitely will go back and try some more flavours! Go try!
