Gulliver’s Travels- Movie Review

Roochster

There are only two reasons why people would watch this movie- 1- Jack Black and 2- One of those childhood stories you wont forget. For me, both these reasons apply.

Inspired from the famous children’s book, Gulliver’s Travels the movie is set in the modern times where Gulliver goes to Bermuda Triangle to do a travel story to impress the girl he loves at work. Circumstances bring him to Lilliput, a place where tiny people live. The movie is about Gulliver’s adventures in this new place and how he gets back home.

Jack Black is known as a funny guy, who hardly makes sense. He’s been a part of some really corny movies in the past and not everyone likes him. I think he’s fun though, so this movie was not bad for me.  Also, Marshall from ‘How I met your mother’ is in it. He’s a great actor and has done a good job in this movie! As I said in the previous paragraph, the movie is set in the modern times so there are a lot of changes made in the story. After the interval, it does seem a little long but I guess the director wanted it that way. There are some jokes which you may not find funny at all because they’re super kiddish so most will not like the movie. But this is not about most; it’s about what I think of the movie.

I think its ok and you should watch it if you like Jack Black and his kinda movies otherwise, just give this a miss.

Megamind- Movie Review

Roochster

Trailers can be deceptive. Such is the case with Megamind. When I saw the trailer, I thought this movie would be awesome but sadly it wasn’t so.

Megamind is a wanna-be bad guy who wants to be known as a bad-ass villain all over the world. In order to do that, he tries to kill the good superhero- Metro Man but realizes that evil can’t exist without good. So he creates a good superhero to show off his being bad skills. But can he stay evil and not experience what love is? Can the good superhero remain good without taking advantage of his superpowers?

Remember ‘Despicable Me’ that released just a few months ago? Well, that had a similar story and guess what… that was way better! In case you missed that and liked this, go watch Despicable Me and you’ll agree with me.

I didn’t fall in love with Megamind… the central character. There are a lot of flaws in the story telling because of which I didn’t see myself going “Awww” or “Oh no!” etc.  The animation is great but I didn’t feel any connection with the story. It was just going on… you know what I mean? Brad Pitt’s voice was hardly used unfortunately. I think he has a great voice! So yeah, these Hollywood guys do a great job with the minutest expressions where animation is concerned and lots of detailing but character detailing wasn’t given as much importance because of which it was just ok for me as a movie.

Tees Maar Khan- Movie Review

Roochster

My name is Sheila…Sheila ki jawani…I’m too sexy for you…main tere haath na aani! This song has been stuck in everyone’s heads since atleast a month and now after watching the movie, there’ll definitely be more fans of the song if not the movie.

Tees Maar Khan (TMK) a.k.a Akshay Kumar is a con artist who plans to rob a train loaded with antiques that can fetch him enough moolah for the rest of his life. In order to rob the train, he disguises himself as a film director and cons Bollywood superstar Aatish Kapoor (Akshaye Khanna), desperately wanting an Oscar and Sheila (B grade actress and TMK’s girlfriend), with a lead role in a ‘period film’ called Bharat Ka Khazana (supposedly based on the Kakori conspiracy case of the pre-Independence era).

Farah Khan’s known for her masala movies and she’s made 2 really good ones. I don’t understand why this went wrong. It’s funny in parts but not funny enough. There’s drama and action but not enough. Somehow, I just couldn’t enjoy this movie completely. The dialogues are very ok. I didn’t find myself laughing at most jokes. OK I laughed a lot at the ‘Mere desh ki dharti scene’ and I must admit it was very funny.

Coming to the acting part…There’s Akshay Kumar who’s acted better in the past and there’s Katrina who’d have made atleast 10,000 people watch the movie only for her item song- Sheila ki jawani. Her role has no matlab only. I think the supporting actors- Raghu & Rajiv, Aarya Babbar and Akshaye Khanna were way better!  The music is not that great except for Sheila ki jawani, Wallah re wallah and the title track which are good but not excellent. I still think Munni’s better than Sheila in all respects.

So yeah, Tees Maar Khan is just average and I’m quite disappointed. I expected more from Farah Khan.

Tron Legacy- Movie Review

Roochster

I didn’t wanna watch this movie at all…but…ab dekh liya toh dekh liya!

Tron Legacy is about how this young, cute looking dude goes into a digital gaming world his father had created some 20 years ago. After going there, he finds his father trapped and so tries to get him out of there but realizes that there’s an evil man who can also get out and cause a lot of damage to the real world. So it’s about how the dude tries to win and get back home.

Let me tell you from first only that I’m not an action movie fan, especially sci-fi action so this had to be really good for me to like! Unfortunately it wasn’t. My friends think that I’d rather go watch movies like ‘Band Baaja “Barsaat”’ and the like (which I love watching, by the way) and to that I’d like to say that I’ve seen both and they haven’t; and I still maintain that ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ is a good movie…way better than this shit!

I agree this movie is graphically very well done… the special effects are superb; one of the things that lacks is the adventure that the movie should have had. The story was pretty predictable which is ok but the screenplay and dialogues were rubbish and the movie just didn’t seem to end…it was so long! In fact, I felt like going to sleep while watching it. After every action sequence there was a bland scene full of bhashan with poor acting. Also the entire film is not in 3d which they mention even at the beginning and I don’t get the point of that.

So, yes. Tron Legacy is bakwaas and I’m very happy watching the movies that I usually watch. I wont recommend you watch it unless you’re a guy and all you care to watch is action.

Mirch- Movie Review

Roochster

The movies this week weren’t too interesting and I wasn’t too keen on watching Tron Legacy cause it’s just not my type of movie so I chose Mirch.

There are like 5 stories in this movie so I’m not sitting and typing so much. I’ll tell you in short. A struggling writer approaches a producer with his rejected script with too much hope. The producer says sorry boss, give me a script which is solid. The only way to make money from a film is a dumdaar actor or sex.  So the writer thinks up 4 different stories, inspired from Panchatantra, in which there’s infidelity, sex and smart women.

Now coming to my review. The beginning of the movie almost made me snore. The title credits were simultaneously rolling with the protagonist waiting for his girlfriend and drinking beer at the same time. So for the first five minutes, all I could see was his hand and a glass of beer and car keys. But don’t worry… it could only get better from there. And it did. The stories were genuinely good. Ok the 2 stories after the Interval were a little weak compared to the first two.

There are some really talented actors in the movie- Konkana Sen Sharma, Raima Sen, Rajpal Yadav, Boman Irani, Shreyas Talpade, Shahana Goswami, Sushant Singh, Prem Chopra, Ila Arun, Arunoday Singh and Tisca Chopra. Director Vinay Shukla’s very smartly used most of them more than once in all the stories in the movie and they’ve done a good job, except for maybe Arunoday Singh who was just ok.

Cinematography could have been way better considering the beautiful locations they got. The music was pretty good and went well with the movie theme.

Overall, Mirch had quite a bit of masala to make it entertaining but it would’ve been better if the pace was faster too.
