Rustom- Movie Review

Roochster

rustom movie posterAkshay Kumar has been doing some pretty interesting films off late and Rustom is definitely one of them. I was expecting it to be a really good murder mystery considering the story is based on true events. Here’s what I felt.

Plot in short– Rustom Pavri (Akshay Kumar) a reputed Naval officer surrenders himself to the police for shooting his wife’s lover. Has he been framed or has he really committed the crime?

The Good– There’s nothing that stands out particularly for me to say that the film was very good. The performances were all alright. Akshay Kumar looked great in the white uniform and was subtle and to-the-point where acting is concerned. Ileana D’Cruz didn’t have much to do apart from crying in most scenes. The lady who played the maid is excellent. Arjan Bajwa who had a very small role was ok but I don’t blame him ‘cause there was anyway barely anything to do.  Kumud Mishra as the manipulative tabloid editor was convincing. The songs are not bad. I love the songs ‘Tere sang yaara’ and the ‘Dekha hazaaron dafaa’. The production design is average. If the film had a better screenplay, the court room drama which goes on for most of the film could have been more relevant and real.

The Not-so-good– The film could have been so much more real and believable than what it is. Also, what’s with Esha Gupta? She looks like a plastic doll and can barely act. The art direction was not as refined as one would have expected it to be.

Verdict– Even though there could have been many better things about the movie, it was decently entertaining and good enough to watch once at home.

Rating– 3/5
