Go Goa Gone- Movie Review

Roochster

Go Goa Gone posterI wasn’t expecting much from this Bollywoodified zombie film, especially with Kunal Khemu in it. But… what a pleasant surprise!

3 friends- Hardik (Kunal Khemu), Luv (Vir Das) and Bunny (Anand Tiwari) who work and stay together don’t have anything exciting happening in their lives. Hardik and Luv spend their time smoking up, drinking and trying their luck with women but nothing seems to work. Work comes up for Bunny in Goa and his friends seize the opportunity and tag along with him. On reaching there, they meet Luna (Puja Gupta) who is Luv’s Facebook friend. She tells them about this ‘Rave’ party happening on an island and they decide to go. All’s not well when they realise the next morning that everyone on the island has turned into zombies. That’s when they meet wanna-be Russian mafia Boris (Saif Ali Khan).

Those of you who have seen the Hollywood flick Zombieland should not expect this to be like it. Sure, the genre is the same but as a movie this one should be judged by itself and not be compared. The directors Raj Nidimoru & Krishna DK have done a good job in making a film that is not only entertaining but also well conceptualized. We’ve had enough of those gross looking ghosts in our scary movies! They’re more apt in ‘Go Goa Gone’ to be honest. Atleast you laugh at them because you’re meant to!

The story and screenplay go hand in hand and with a simple premise like in this, the dialogues and expressions work the most. They are very today. Fresh, witty and natural. Good work, writers! I read Kunal Khemu is one of them too! I wish the background music was more pumped up though, like a more punk rock sort of beat going on in the background to pace up the film a bit. The cinematography is good but I expected more from a picturesque place like Goa. I liked how the blood squirted out from the zombies though. That was kind of cool! The music by Sachin-Jigar is different but goes well with the film and all that’s happening in it.

The actors suit the characters well and do justice to their parts. Kunal Khemu as I said, really surprised me. He is good and the most entertaining actor in the movie. Vir Das again is a natural and is a lot of fun to watch. He’s a good looking guy. Saif Ali Khan’s character is fun in the start but gets a bit off later. The way he introduces himself first with his accent I thought, ok this will be interesting and is different from what he’s ever done but he’s just got a long cameo in the film which barely counts as the main hero. Anand Tiwari is a good actor and played the part of a naiive friend very well. He is fun to watch too. Puja Gupta was very ok and didn’t quite fit in with the cast. Honestly, she was not the best choice for the part.

Fun, entertaining and twisted, this film appeals the most to the youth. Go Goa Gone will make you laugh out loud. Go watch it with a bunch of friends!
