Student Of The Year- Movie Review

Roochster

I’m a huge Karan Johar fan and have loved watching every movie of his, yes even Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham so how could I leave out Student of the year?! Anyway, here’s my review.

So, there’s this huge University at Dehradun which calls itself a school housing some really posh students who travel in Ferraris. They have the ‘Student of the year’ competition going on every year thanks to their happy and gay principal Rishi Kapoor. Through this, relationships are formed and some are broken. Student of the year is about 3 friends and their ups and downs in their friendships.

This is one of those movies which college students will love and the rest of us might not relate to it as much. Karan Johar has a typical style- making everything look beautiful and filmy! Visually rich in terms of cinematography, styling, make up, hair, production design and music too. The editing could have been better though. The first half of the movie just goes on and on and there’s too much bakbak in the starting from all the supporting actors.

I have a huge crush on Siddharth Malhotra! I swear! He’s so hot and what a body! I felt like a college kid again after watching him! By the way he acts pretty well and has good screen presence.  Alia Bhatt was alright. She’s pretty. Varun Dhawan was good but didn’t look like the rich spoilt brat. Rishi Kapoor as usual was too good! Sana Saeed (little Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) barely had any dialogues. She just had to look hot and bitchy which she did very well. Even the guy who played ‘Pseudo’ was very natural. All the other supporting actors did a good job.

The music by Vishal and Shekhar mainly includes some fun foot tapping numbers like ‘Disco Deewane’ but also has a different and nice track called ‘Ishqwala love’ which can grow on you after listening to it a couple of times.

Overall, it was a little better than ok for me. I was wondering how come no Shahrukh Khan in this movie (even a guest appearance).

Rating– 3/5
